This is a growing trend that is beyond annoying - I don't even know what to call it.
Maybe appointment to make an appointment.
My mom made an appointment with a medical specialist and had to wait a couple weeks for an opening in the appointment schedule.
When the time came we arrived and began filling out all the paperwork. At one point a nurse or receptionist sat down with us and asked my mom if she'd like to make an appointment to see the Dr. (???)
My mom said she had an appointment to see the Dr. and she was here for it. The nurse again asked if she'd like to make an appointment to see the Dr. This left both of us confused as we explained we were here for the appointment that she'd made weeks ago.
The nurse said that if we wanted to see the Dr. we'd have to make an appointment. I told her point blank we made the appointment and had to wait weeks for the next available opening, that the appointment was for my mom to see the Dr. (what else would you make a Dr's appointment for?) and it was for this date at this time and asked what the problem was. The nurse said that this was only a consultation to obtain the paperwork and see if we wanted to make an appointment. I literally could not believe this.
Except for... a few years back my car got hit... an insurance adjuster came to my house to check the car and although it was still drivable, I was instructed to take it to a specific body shop to have the structure checked out and for surface repairs.
I called the shop, explained the situation and asked for an appointment to have my car repaired. (I explained I'd take the day off from work and wait for it if the car didn't need to stay overnight.)
The guy I talked to said, "Okay, bring it by on Monday."
I asked what time. He said, "Any time, you can just bring it by and someone can look at it."
So I again stated I was making an appointment to get it repaired and my insurance company forwarded the adjuster's report to them. I asked what time they opened, gave him my name (which I could tell he was not writing down) and finally I said, "Okay, just to be clear, I have an appointment for 9:00 am on Monday morning on this date to have the repairs at least started, correct?"
The guy replied, "Yeah, you can bring it by then if you want."
So Monday comes and I take the car there first thing, a mechanic comes out, looks at the car, tells me what it might need then asks if I want to make an appointment to bring it in for repairs. I was almost fuming.
I gave him my name and explained that I made the appointment last week and that it was for 9:00 am today. He checked their book and said there was no appointment for me. So I relayed how the whole call had gone and that I took off work to be here. He asked if I got the name of the guy I talked to. Unfortunately I hadn't as that guy had given me the bum's rush. But I reiterated that my insurance co. had directed me to make an appointment at their shop, that I called and requested an appointment, that I supplied my name, my insurance info., I confirmed the time & date over the phone and if his employee was refusing to take
appointments the day he answered the phone, that was their problem - I made an appointment and this was it! I repeated how I took off from work to be there and was losing money and that this was the appointment. Luckily the guy finally seemed to get it and told me to pull my car in as I spent the rest of the day waiting for the repairs to be completed.
But what's with this trend of making appointments, getting there for the appointment and being asked if you want to make an appointment because this appointment is only to make an appointment?
