"TriStar pictures and the Jim Henson Company worked out a deal to bring fans of the cult-classic '80s film Labyrinth back to the screen, with Evil Dead reboot and Don't Breathe director Fede Alvarez at the helm. During a recent interview about the project, Alvarez revealed that the script is now done:

“I was actually having lunch yesterday with Lisa Henson and we reconnected with that project. We're very excited about it. It is basically a direct continuation of the first movie many years later, and I can't tell you much more about it... but we have a script, and we're very excited about it so we'll see where that goes. Like always, it takes time and effort to put those movies together because they're larger than life. But that's one of the projects that I'm very excited about.”"

It looks like Sony and the Jim Henson Co. are still looking to move forward with a new Labyrinth movie. According to movie blogger Jeff Sneider, Robert Eggers has signed up to write and direct the movie.

May be worth taking with a grain of salt, since Sneider hasn't always been 100% correct with his "scoops".

Also worth mentioning that Eggers recently said in an interview he has finished the screenplay for one of his upcoming films, The Knight, so it's unclear which project he would direct first.

Well, it looks like the rumors were correct in this instance, as Deadline is now reporting that Robert Eggers has, indeed, signed a deal to make the Labyrinth sequel, which apparently will be his next project after Werwulf.

It’s been a big week for Robert Eggers.

A day after Focus Features’ announcement of Werwulf, which he’s set as his next film on the heels of Nosferatu, we’ve learned that the filmmaker has closed his deal to write and direct a new Labyrinth film for TriStar Pictures.

The news comes following the unveiling of the 2025 Oscar nominations, which included four for Eggers’ hit vampire flick in the Cinematography, Costume Design, Production Design and Makeup and Hairstyling categories.

Plot details for Eggers’ Labyrinth are under wraps, but we’re told the film is a sequel to, rather than a remake of, Jim Henson’s 1986 classic. Eggers is writing the script with Sjón, his collaborator on 2022 Viking actioner The Northman and with whom he’s also working on Werwulf. Chris and Eleanor Columbus will produce alongside Lisa Henson, with Brian Henson executive producing.
