the addams family

Producer Christopher Meledandri just spoke with ComingSoon.net at the junket for Despicable Me, confirming that the rumored animated version of the addams family is moving forward, with tim burton involved, hopefully to direct.

Though he stressed that the project is in the very early stages, he did confirm that the film is planned for stop motion and not for computer animation. He added that the project will be based on the original Charles Addams comics that ran in The New Yorker and not the subsequent television series or the film adaptations thereof.

Additionally, it has not been determined whether or not the film would be released in black and white, though it is certainly something being considered.

"It's all very, very early, but we are developing with [Tim Burton directing] in mind," said Meledandri, "...We're just now at the story phase. Stuff has been written as though we are doing it in black and white, but that's not correct. It's not incorrect, but it's not correct. We haven't gotten to that point."

That stuff about it being based solely on the New Yorker version may be a crock. The writers of the Paramount movie said the same thing, but it was based on both the cartoons and the TV series, The producer of The TV series sued for incorporating his ideas and he was right and they settled. To be based only on the cartoon means no Gomez fawning over Morticia, no Cousin It, and a different concept for the Thing.

This could be interesting... but it just wouldn't be The Addams Family without Cousin It or Thing...

Gonna be tough to match that 90s cast.

Women will be your undoing, Pépé
they still going with the stop-action and did they decide whether to go color or B&W? No mention in the article.

Still, I am a Addams Family fan so I'll most likely check it out. Though I'm a little worried with the same director of Sausage Party doing it.
