What are some good darker mature 70s and 80s scifi films?

I feel like Enemy Mine (1985) was pretty dark. So long since I saw it.

The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976)
Starman (1984)
Bowie is my Jesus

I find the cartoon Ulysses 31 incredibly dark and adult at times. In some ways more a feeling than anything else.

I feel like ive been hearing that brought up a bit recently. I should watch it. You should watch Nobodies boy remi. That ones a gut puncher.

Ive seen Nausicaa, but I have no idea in what way its darker than Akira though.
Read the manga. It's UBER dark, like, as dark as the Soviet stuff.

I cant remember if ive seen M.D. Geist but id think i would have since i binged on a lot of those b rated hyper violent anime ovas (Violence jack, Urotsukidoji, and Genocyber)
I was thinking of naming Genocyber but it is from 1994. Genocyber is actually one of my favorite movies.

I might shouldve mentioned but foriegn films are preffered especially russian, polish, czech and such.

Ive looked at Ga, Ga - Chwala bohaterom as well would you say its better?
I like Ga, Ga much more, but I'm terrible at saying what movies are objectively better than others. Here are more detailed thoughts on Ga Ga. I've written quite a bit about Eastern European sci-fi.

Also, look up On the Silver Globe if you want something batsh*t. Alphaville might appeal as well.

Ive been interested in Silver Globe because i like Devil, Third Part of the night, and Possession

Brazil, Brazil, Brazil. Watch Brazil (1985). LOL!

And, to a lesser extent, A Clockwork Orange and 1984.

outland (1981)

Ive already seen Brazil and its one of my favorites ^^

Yeah, probably by me .
Aww probably ^^ Surprised i havent seen it already tbh.

Krull (1983) which I notice is being classed as science fantasy, and that's fair enough. It's basically sword and sorcery meets sci-fi and once again definitely has the dark tone you're after.

I was watching some of The Keep (1983) the other day and although it's a horror film it does occasionally feel like some science fantasy is creeping in.

I'll leave the path for a moment and give you some good TV examples:

The Stone Tape (1972) [Haven't seen it but should have by now]
The Nightmare Man (1981) [4 episode serial]

Demon Seed (1977)
Westworld (1973)
Futureworld (1976)
2010 (1984)
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

Many of the other Star Trek films of this period also fit the bill as having dark elements.

I supposed we could throw in Capricorn One (1977) too.
