Well actually the author of the site makes some very good points. He also backs up everything he says, and if he wants to boycott the movie, then he has demonstarted well and with clarity his reasons for doing so. I myself don't really care for the movie enough to feel one way or the other.

I don't see why you found the comments in that page asinine (Only 1 "s" by the way), he makes good points. Personally, I think it looks like a piece of crap, I loved Dark City so very much, I even considered it one of the greats of science fiction film, but I, Robot looks like a stupid pathetic excuse for a film. Will Smith totally doesn't belong in this role, from the clips I saw in the trailer, I hated every part with Smith in it. I for one, will not be seeing this in theatres.

i also would like to know why you found the page to be crap. He made some strong points and no matter how picky they are the movie still looks like terd. I didnt plan on seeing the movie but now i have half a reason.

my husband read all of isaac asimov and read this story in particular (actually i hear it's based on several)...i showed him this article, got halfway through it, looked at me and told me that this was a piece of crap and just walked away...

he still wants to see this film....

I don't see as how a crappy or in-name-only adaptation is anything new in Hollywood. I'll simply be boycotting I, Robot because it looks like a smoldering turd devoid of any good qualities. Any. At all.

I, Robot is a "completely" unrelated movie that originally was entitled Hardwired, but they just threw in the title and some elements of his stories.

The movie is LOOSELY based.

I don't remember anyone claiming it was based on or even inspired by the stories of Asimov.

That makes for a rather sticky wicket, doesn't it?
If you want to add elements of something, you should give it a nod or you get accused of stealing ideas. But if you acknowledge the influence, then your film is compared (and never favorably, sez me) to the older work.

I think using the same title is going too far if you're not telling that story, but past that, the line is a bit of a blur.

It's not morally reprehensible to piggyback on an existing story like that, but it's not entirely honest, either. I don't know if it's worthy of a full-on boycott, but a temporary, opening-week snub to express a little distaste for the practice seems reasonable to me. I don't know if I'll participate, but I can understand why someone could get a little upset over it.
