Movie a Day by the Bay

The Guest (Adam Wingard, 2014) -

I also thought this movie was awesome... a bit predictable at some point but awesome nonetheless. Dan Stevens is pretty badass in it

In some ways it's predictable, but I think it also had enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. I get what you're saying though.

Good point. Hadn't thought about that. Do you get my point though? When a movie is aiming to be style more than anything, and doesn't pretend to be profound storytelling (think Amer), I don't think "style over substance" is really a valid criticism.
I agree with that... unless it's something like Luhrman's Gatsby, that turns an amazing book into something mediocre.

I haven't seen that, but based on Luhrmann's other work, I imagine it's just poorly done style.

Miss Vicky's Loyal and Willing Slave
I also just watched The Guest recently, a few days ago to be specific. I also really enjoyed it and would rate it about the same probably. And you're right about the fantastic soundtrack.

Scream (Wes Craven, 1996) -

[REWATCH]

Watched this today with a horror buddy of mine, who had never seen it. Great movie, one of my favorites. Don't know what to say. It's great horror cinema. I just noticed a lot of brilliance in it this time around. Not that I didn't in past viewings, but from the opening, scene after scene is just so exciting, engaging and fun to watch. Wes Craven might have some duds, but I don't think he's a fluke director personally, and this movie is good proof of that - it's very solidly crafted.

Yes, Craven has some dumb ones, but then he also has a few brilliant ones.

Some of Craven's films are brilliant... they are quirky, a bit silly but fun. you have to admit

I was so close to nominating Scream for the slasher HoF. It is, after all, my favourite slasher film.

Scream is actually one of the few slasher films I've seen, where the character's aren't incredibly annyoing.

My favorite Craven is Red Eye. I know I'm in the minority with that.
Yup, I do think you are. I watched it because it got Cillian Murphy in it, and I have watched it twice, and wouldn't mind watching it again. But it will never be a favorite of mine.

Love Last House on the Left as well. Haven't seen Shocker, though.

Shocker is nothing especially great but it's good fun.

Craven's transition from Last House to his other stuff is a big leap in my mind, not in quality, but in tone.

One of my favorite Cravens, and favorite horror films in general, is The Hills Have Eyes.
