+ rep for these. There's no need to sell me on The Man With The X-Ray Eyes. I think a few of those might find their way onto my 60's list.
Recommend Me Some Movies from the 1960s
Nah, he just likes to see through women's clothes.

Any american movies worth checking out for an arthouse buff like me... I have got Faces on my watchlist. As well as we are going to have a Richard Brooks theme at our movie club (Elmer Gantry and In Cold Blood).
Maybe i should check out some Ford and Hawks? I really liked Red River...

Scorpio Rising (1964)
Weird short (30 minute) film that is often credited with changing the way music is used in films, inventing the music video etc.

I don't read every post so this may have been mentioned, but I think you may like A Taste of Honey. It's worth a shot anyway.

Shadows of Our Forgotten Ancestors (1964) by Sergei Parajanov
I just saw this and my first impression is that this is a hidden gem. A story of lost love, set in Ucraine. Its nearly etnographich in its depiction of Hutsul culture. The cinematography is absolutely spellbinding and the use of colour to depict the mood of the protagonist was really intriguing. Highly recommended and i must say that this is in sharp competition for one of the top spots on my list.
Its also on youtube:

I would also recommend Two Women and Ocean's 11. I don't know if they will make my list but they are worth a viewing.

Some of these have probably been mentioned but the 60s is a great decade to get into Japanese films:
High & Low (1963) - Akira Kurosawa
The Human Condition III: A Soldier's Prayer (1961) - Masaki Kobayashi
(You do need to watch the previous two to really appreciate this)
Harakiri (1962) - Masaki Kobayashi
Late Autumn (1960) - Yasujiro Ozu
Those are all fantastic and I'd also recommend:
The Face of Another (1966) - Hiroshi Teshigahara -
Woman in the Dunes (1964) - Hiroshi Teshigahara +
Samurai Rebellion (1967) - Masaki Kobayashi
When a Woman Ascends the Stairs (1960) - Mikio Naruse

Did WAR AND PEACE play in movie theaters and people sat through all 7 hours of it at once? With intermissions, I assume.

No, It was originally released in four parts but not all together. What a repertory theatre does is up to them. The closest I came to watching something like this at once is when my wife and I saw Little Dorrit at the theatre the same day in 1988. Part 1 (3 hr) played in the afternoon, then there was a two-hour dinner intermission and Part 2 (3 hr) played in the evening.

7 hours would be a lot. The longest movie I saw on the big screen was probably 4.5, but it went pretty fast and it didn't even have an intermission (I think). That was Mysteries of Lisbon at the AFI, Silver Spring. My wife got bored in the middle of it and went for a nap in the car, but I loved it.
Oh yeah, and Shadows of Our Forgotten Ancestors is great.
