The MoFos Top 100 of the 90s Countdown - Redux

I've never been tempted to watch Braveheart, and now that I know it's three hours long I'll file it under "permanently unseen".
Just watched the trailer on youtube and it seems to me that Mel Gibson was a little bit too old for the part, and the big hairdo makes it look kinda cringe.
Apparently it's beloved enough to become the #40, and if forum members like this kind of movie then I guess Dances With Wolves will follow soon.

I've never heard of the Hunkchunk Express (there's not much in the description) and I'm not cinephile enough to appreciate/understand Asian films.
The list is full of surprises!

I had been meaning to see Chungking Express for a while now, so today I finally watched it. I liked it, but didn't love it. The performances are good, but I didn't find the story overly interesting or engaging. I was expecting something more. Braveheart is a rousing, entertaining spectacle and was #8 on my ballot.

If your going up against Miss Vicki, you need some sort of weapon.
Wit alone is not going to cut it.

Fangs-in it is, then.

"Glabidador Shlucks!"

This trailer is so goofy. They have such thick accents and then that stereotypically 90s drama trailer announcer comes in to make it ten times cheesier.

He sounds like the sort of guy who'd be advertising one of those budget paperback smut novels like "Taming a Wild Scot", or "The Highlander's Forbidden Bride", or

And then to top it off, the whole trailer's like
"Damn that MacGregor!"
"I'll get you, MacGregor!"
"And I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for that meddling MacGregor!"

ROB ROY

"Well, at least your intentions behind the UTTERLY DEVASTATING FAULTS IN YOUR LOGIC are good." - Captain Steel

At least it isn't boring as shit like Gladiator, the other Oscar winning bro movie that has fallen out of favor with critics in recent years.

Was it ever really in favor to begin with?

He tried to talk me into seeing the sequel for Glads, thankfully his son-in-law said he'd go...I later bumped into it streaming and got about 20 minutes into it before I breaking into my George C. Scott impression... "TURN IT OFF, TURN IT OFF!!" sobs uncontrollably.
Gladiator II is a steaming pile of shit. You were right to turn it off.

Fangs-in it is, then.

I've been a big fan of Braveheart ever since I rented it back in the mid-90s. If I had participated in the previous 90s countdown years ago, it would've probably been a sureshot for my ballot. As it is now, I still enjoy the film a lot and had it in contention, but ended up pushing it off in favor of several others. For what it's worth, I might be a guest in a friend's podcast next week to talk about the film, so again, I'm a fan; it just missed my ballot.

I haven't seen Chungking Express.

Also the previous few posts now have me wanting to rewatch Rob Roy. I remember enjoying it, but it's been ages.
Same. Unlike Braveheart, which I've gone back repeatedly and have seen on video or TV dozens of times.

Not too soon, I hope. I want at least top 20.

Holy frijoles! The four of us that went (Anderson lovers all, though all with different opinions about what his best is/are) all agreed Asteroid City was one of his best films and early candidate for best film of the year. We were joyful about cinema itself when we left that theater.
Dude, you are wrong. The Grand Budapest Hotel is the best.

Dude, you are wrong. The Grand Budapest Hotel is the best.
But we didn't say it was his best and it didn't come out the same year as GBH.
GBH is very good. I would put several WA movies in a cloud just below the top. Which, for me, is The Life Aquatic.

Not too soon, I hope. I want at least top 20.
To quote the classic Batman cliffhanger: the worst is yet to come!

I'd give her a HA! and a HI-YA! Then I'd kick her.
I saw Braveheart a long time ago, but the only thing that I remembered about it was that I didn't like it. I tried rewatching it for this countdown, but I only got about a half hour into it before I turned it off.

I haven't seen Chungking Express.
