First Quiz Posted!

Here ya' go: the new site's first quiz (on "The Matrix"):
http://www.movieforums.com/quizzes/index.html?quizid=1

Some information on the features and such that you can expect to find on each test:
  • All tests will be exactly 20 questions long.
  • All questions will contain 4 possible answers, only one of which is the correct answer.
  • Your score is given to you based on the number of questions answered correctly.
  • Anything less than 12 out of the 20 (which is 60%...IE: a "D") is a failing grade.
  • These are basically for fun...there aren't any prizes or public standings. Overall, your results won't be public unless you want them to be...so there's no problem with doing poorly. It's all about pride, and perhaps bragging rights sometime in the future.
  • You can't go back and try to answer a question again, even if you choose the same answer. Going back and submitting a form more than once will give you an error, and you'll have to start over.
  • A question-by-question breakdown will be displayed once you've finished. It will go through each question and display both your answer, and the correct answer.
  • When you're finished with the test, you'll see a link next to your score titled "CHALLENGE SOMEONE." Clicking on this link will bring up a small popup window. Fill out the form there with your name, your friend's name, and your friend's email, as well as any trash-talk you feel like including.

When you do this, your friend will receive an email with a link, inviting them to accept your challenge. Assuming they don't mess around with the link or anything like that, you will be both be notified when the challengee has finished the quiz, via email. The email will insult the loser one of several ways depending on how badly they lost. I think you'll all find this "challenge" feature to be quite fun.
As it stands right now, people who are NOT registered with this site cannot take a quiz unless someone challenges them to do so. In addition, they cannot challenge someone when they've finished their challenge quiz. However, I'm working on changing this, so that anyone who enters a name and an email address can take the quizzes.

However, there were always be an advantage to being registered. Example: if you're registered *AND* logged in, you won't have to fill out any forms for an email address or name, or anything like that...you can just click on the quiz button and take the quiz. In addition, all quiz data is saved in the database...so, in the future, it's a possibility that quizzes taken while registered and logged in could be saved and viewable by the member who took them.

And, last but certainly not least, there's always the chance that we will, at some point, have some kind of leaderboard, or some type of tournament. These things would definitely be open to registered members only, and, if these kinds of things ever do take place, they would likely have to be accompanied by the addition of a time-limit feature to the script.

Please also know that the average score of each quiz is basically publicly available on several types of pages (for one, anyone who takes a quiz will get to see two bar images...one symbolizing their score, and another symbolizing the average score for that test by all test-takers)...so some form of your score is vaguely public...though individual scores are currently not.

HAVE FUN!

Damn...that test was way too hard. Did you make those up your self? No way anyone could answer those off the top of their head like that. What if I disagree with one of the answers...there's one for sure that I think is right and the test scored it wrong...I'll PM you, T.

heres a suggestion- make a fight club quiz next. Possibly a Kubrick one too.

Sades: yeah, just fire a message my way. Anyway, some of those were off the top of my head, but some of the really tough ones I got off of various sources online. mecurdius: I can't really add any that I, or you, want. You see, I need to know a fair amount about the subject to come up with the majority of them. As such, if anyone here thinks they can come up with 20 questions, each with 4 potential answers (one of which is correct) that they think will accurately test the knowledge of a subject/movie/actor/whatever, then please email me, or send me a message here on the forums!

I anticipate that as time goes on, most quizzes will be written by people other than myself, since it makes more sense to have gurus in various genres and subjects, etc, write various things, than have one guy like me who only has a few specialities, so to speak, write them all himself.

I've got a question for the Kubrick one:

"How overrated is Stanley Kubrick?"

a. A lot
b. A whole lot
c. An incredible amount
d. More than words could ever convey

I feel a flame coming on. Anyway, I'm sure Steve will volunteer to write a Kubrick quiz now, slipping various praises subtley into the questions and answers, just to serve as a response blow.

Now With Moveable Parts
answer: d

um, I want to make a quiz about ferris bueller's day off or princess bride. Or a funny one about what kind of theater goer you are..like that gay quiz kinda...how do we go about doing that?

Now With Moveable Parts

Oh staple my sides, for they do split.

The truth isn't meant to be funny.

Now With Moveable Parts
That's debatable.

Ok, update: there MAY be a bug in the quiz script...but nothing major. It appears to involve the challenge option. No big whoop...your scores are all still accurate and saved in the DB...so no need to panic or anything. Anyway, I'm gonna try to get to the bottom of it, and post some more quizzes in the meantime, likely still on specific movies for the time being.

If anyone wants to volunteer to write a quiz (or at least give it a try), you can either email me ([email protected]), or you can click on the "msg" button on this post.

Gracias. Enjoy the quiz/quizzes.
