Starting to live on your own

Prices for living where I am, I can feed myself for two weeks for about £40... but that's me on my own and buying own brand stuff from Supermarkets and looking for bargains.
I think that's pretty good,I counted more. But then again,I don't live in the UK yet

I won't have a job when I come but I'm hoping to find it in the same town where I will live.It has a 100,000 population, could be bigger for more work opportunities but it's not very small as well.

And don't watch Eastern Promises
not sure if I should cry or laugh

heh, just realized that my room might be a rental scam.Life on your own is hard. :/

not sure if it's a scam yet,I'm waiting for the reply from certain people to clue me in a bit. Still,it's good that I caught it before sending any money or before my arrival.

Welcome to Britain, where you get scammed before you've arrived.
made me laugh

Depression at the end of high school is a very real feeling for a lot of people. I definitely went through it. I couldn't get a job at first and felt like a loser. Soon enough, I got a job. After that I found an even better job that 7 years later almost I'm still at. Now, I have 2 jobs, and have been on my own for 4 years. Depression still lingers in my life, its like a shadow I can't get rid of, but I'm making it okay.

^ Thank you for the kind words. )

Anyway,I feel like I'm going through some kind of phases.I passed denial and depression and now I am somewhere is the "dealt with what's coming" phase.
I found one distant friend in Manchester and although I don't like the uni very much,I'll probably go there since it's a bigger city so I hope it will be easier to find a job.I think I found a room, too.Today I talked to the landlord lady and it was my first contact with UK.I was scared to death because I hate doing things from distance, especially on the phone.

I hope so,too.Lately I've been doing tons of paperwork,going through banks and various institutions.What cna I say..life of a grown-up is tragic.

So,I finally arrived.I went by bus and I have a motion sickness so the trip was a pure torture. :[ It's my first day now in UK,I'm even afraid to go outside.

It's not that scary. Just don't make eye contact with anyone and don't look at anything.

Kidding. Hope you enjoy your time!

I have to learn about buses as I'm from a small town where buses don't even go around the city. Also,I'm wondering how normally people find a job here?Do they just go to various places and leave their CVs?Do they apply via Internet? Is it normal to put your photo in a CV?

Don't worry about a photo, but yeah you can hand out CVs all over the place.

One place to start is the Job Centre... it's a Government run department that deals with every aspect of jobs and income, income tax etc in the UK.

UK people, could you explain me how cinemas work here? How much do they normally cost? What are the best movie theaters? Are there some kind of discounts?I've heard something about monthly tickets?Anyway,I need advice.

Ticket should be around the £10 mark.

Odeon are about as good as they get too, but it depends on the area where you live. Some places don't have the Odeon franchise.
They used to be UCI.

You can get discount tickets... Odeon tend to have certain off peak times where a ticket will cost £5.

Not sure about monthly tickets though. Best to check the Odeon websites.
