I am a long time viewer and I thought I would post my take on the Top 100 threads I've seen in the past. These are just my opinion, and generally are movies I enjoy watching over and over.
I love movies with "twist" endings, so you may see more of those than you care to throughout my list. I do still admire most of the classics, but a lot of mine may be too new for some having not stood the test of time, but I believe they will. This is only the bottom part of the list after all.
100 - Casino Royale (2006)
My favorite of the Bond era films. Also one of the newest. In my opinion, Craig is a terrific Bond.
"Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it? "
99 - Grave of the Fireflies (1988)
Very sad movie. Animated, but I think it is brilliant.
" September 21, 1945... that was the night I died. "
98 - There will be Blood (2007)
Another great acting job by a wonderful modern actor. Money driven til the end.
"Well, if it's in me, it's in you. There are times when I look at people and I see nothing worth liking. I want to earn enough money that I can get away from everyone."
97 - The Great Escape (1963)
A timeless classic, that is loved by many.
"This is a true story. Although the characters are composites of real men, and time and place have been compressed, every detail of the escape is the way it really happened. "
96 - American Psycho (2000)
I don't really know why I loved this movie so much. The film is just superb to me. Patrick Bateman is a character that I will never forget.
"There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone, in fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape, but even after admitting this there is no catharsis, my punishment continues to elude me and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself; no new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing. "
95 - Sunset Blvd. (1950)
Another classic. One of Wilder's best.
"Yes, this is Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, California. It's about 5 0'clock in the morning. That's the homicide squad, complete with detectives and newspaper men."
94 - Sideways (2004)
This movie is great. I love Giamatti. He's funny and he doesn't need to try.
" In love? Really? 24 hours with some wine-pourer chick and you're ____ in love? Come on! And you're gonna give up everything?"
93 - The Game (1997)
This one really surprised me years ago when I first saw it. At the end, I found my self saying.. Wow! Jefferson Airplane song near the middle is perfect!
"I'm being toyed with by a bunch of depraved children."
92 - Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
A great from a master.
"Bill, I... I know what happened to you last night. And I know what's been going on since. And I think you just might have the wrong idea about one or two things."
91 - The Notebook (2004)
Change of heart.
90 - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
Not huge on westerns, but this is one of the better ones I've seen in recent memory.
" You just keep thinkin' Butch. That's what you're good at."
