My top 100

I am a long time viewer and I thought I would post my take on the Top 100 threads I've seen in the past. These are just my opinion, and generally are movies I enjoy watching over and over.

I love movies with "twist" endings, so you may see more of those than you care to throughout my list. I do still admire most of the classics, but a lot of mine may be too new for some having not stood the test of time, but I believe they will. This is only the bottom part of the list after all.

100 - Casino Royale (2006)

My favorite of the Bond era films. Also one of the newest. In my opinion, Craig is a terrific Bond.

"Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it? "

99 - Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

Very sad movie. Animated, but I think it is brilliant.

" September 21, 1945... that was the night I died. "

98 - There will be Blood (2007)

Another great acting job by a wonderful modern actor. Money driven til the end.

"Well, if it's in me, it's in you. There are times when I look at people and I see nothing worth liking. I want to earn enough money that I can get away from everyone."

97 - The Great Escape (1963)

A timeless classic, that is loved by many.

"This is a true story. Although the characters are composites of real men, and time and place have been compressed, every detail of the escape is the way it really happened. "

96 - American Psycho (2000)

I don't really know why I loved this movie so much. The film is just superb to me. Patrick Bateman is a character that I will never forget.

"There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone, in fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape, but even after admitting this there is no catharsis, my punishment continues to elude me and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself; no new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing. "

95 - Sunset Blvd. (1950)

Another classic. One of Wilder's best.

"Yes, this is Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, California. It's about 5 0'clock in the morning. That's the homicide squad, complete with detectives and newspaper men."

94 - Sideways (2004)

This movie is great. I love Giamatti. He's funny and he doesn't need to try.

" In love? Really? 24 hours with some wine-pourer chick and you're ____ in love? Come on! And you're gonna give up everything?"

93 - The Game (1997)

This one really surprised me years ago when I first saw it. At the end, I found my self saying.. Wow! Jefferson Airplane song near the middle is perfect!

"I'm being toyed with by a bunch of depraved children."

92 - Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

A great from a master.

"Bill, I... I know what happened to you last night. And I know what's been going on since. And I think you just might have the wrong idea about one or two things."

91 - The Notebook (2004)

Change of heart.

90 - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)

Not huge on westerns, but this is one of the better ones I've seen in recent memory.

" You just keep thinkin' Butch. That's what you're good at."

Welcome to the site. Nice list so far.

Casino Royale - is one of thee best action movies of all time to bad Quantum of Solice didn't pick up were Casino left off.

There Will Be Blood - unfortantly I may be in a very small boat on this one, but I'm not really a huge fan of this film. Not that I thought is was bad just not as good as I think everybody else thought it was.

The Great Escape - "Timeless Classic" Agree. After watching some of the Epic films of the 70's and below (Ben-Hur, Spartacus and Lawerance of Arabia) I've come to realize Hollywood is rarely able to pull off films like this anymore.

American Psycho - Truely fantasic dark comedy.

The Game - Probably Fincher most forgotten film next to Alien3 which was taken away from him. I've seen this film coutless times and it never fails to ensnare me.

Eyes Wide Shut - The Thing for me about Kubrick is i'm never really able to decided which film of his is his best other than it's always the one that i'm watching.

89 - Gosford Park (2001)

Just got Altman'ed. I really enjoyed this one.

"I'm the perfect servant; I have no life. "

88 - Snatch. (2000)

My favorite Richie film to date. Loved it even though I couldn't always understand what they were saying!

"Do you know what "nemesis" means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by an 'orrible ___... me. "

87 - The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948)

Vintage Bogart. Film will never die.

"You two guys musta been born in a revival meeting. "

86 - The Third Man (1949)

Got to love Welles.

"Go home Martins, like a sensible chap. You don't know what you're mixing in, get the next plane."

85 - Falling Down (1993)

Comedic, yet tragic?

"You think I'm a thief? Oh, you see, I'm not the thief. I'm not the one charging 85 cents for a *stinking* soda! You're the thief. I'm just standing up for my rights as a consumer."

84 - Saw (2004)

The only one that should have been made. I still get goose bumps.

"GAME OVER!"

83 - A Beautiful Mind (2001)

Crowe at his best.

"Classes will dull your mind, destroy the potential for authentic creativity. "

82 - The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (1966)

Guess I loved it as a kid, so I suppose I still do.

"God is not on our side because he hates idiots also. "

81 - Lost in Translation (2003)

In retrospect, I don't think I could keep this one off my top 100.

"Well you figure, you sleep one-third of your life, that knocks out eight years of marriage right there. So you're, y'know, down to 16 in change. You know you're just a teenager, at marriage, you can drive it but there's still the occasional accident. "

80 - Frailty (2001)

Another great movie. I don't know, I think it is underrated. Plus it has a bit of the twisty endings I like so much

"Only demons should fear me. You're not a demon are you? The angle said you were. I can't believe that. I won't. You're my son, and I love you more than my own life. You know what's funny about all this Fenton? I'm afraid of you."

79 - Gone with the Wind (1939)

A true timeless classic. Everyone knows this.

"
With enough courage, you can do without a reputation. "

78 - Some Like it Hot (1959)

What a dame.

"
Will you look at that! Look how she moves! It's like Jell-O on springs. Must have some sort of built-in motor or something. I tell you, it's a whole different sex! "

77 - The Seven Samurai (1954)

Kurosawa masterpiece.

"
How'd you like to kill thirty bandits? "

76 - The Departed (2006)

Another top notch Scorsese film.

"
When you decide to be something, you can be it. That's what they don't tell you in the church. When I was your age they would say we can become cops, or criminals. Today, what I'm saying to you is this: when you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference?"

75 - Identity (2003)

Well constructed, thriller.

"
When I was going up the stairs, I met a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today, I wish, I wish he'd go away."

74 - O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)

How can you not love this movie? Cohen magic.

"
Deceitful, two-faced she-woman. Never trust a female Delmar, remember that one simple precept and your time with me will not have been ill spent."

73 - It's a Wonderful life (1946)

Another movie I grew up on. Jimmy to the rescue!

"Where's that money, you silly stupid old fool? Where's that money? Do you realize what this means? It means bankruptcy and scandal and prison. That's what it means. One of us is going to jail - well, it's not gonna be me. "

72 - Donnie Darko (2001)

Dark movie. Different...which is why I like it.

"
Do you want your sister to lose weight? Tell her to get off the couch, stop eating twinkies and maybe go out for field hockey. You know what? No one ever knows what they want to be when they grow up. You know it takes a little, little while to find that out, right, Jim? And you... yeah, you. Sick of some jerk shoving your head down the toilet? Well, you know what? Maybe... you should lift some weights, or uh, take a karate lesson and the next time he's tries to do it, you kick him in the balls."

71 - Network (1976)

Take.

"
The time has come to re-evaluate our relationship, Max."

70 - Crash (2004)

I love how all the stories come together. Similarly, I liked 7 pounds too.

"I want the locks changed again in the morning. "

Suspect's Reviews

I like your list...not a lot of surprises but a solid list...and I love some of the quotes you chose from the films...some offbeat choices...thank you for NOT using "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" from NETWORK.

That seems to be Gideon's thing: Dredge up long forgotten threads from long forgotten members. That and posting a million different reviews that have no images from the films, lack structure and don't have a rating scale.

The Shawshank Redemption and momento

Except for The Game, I'm good with all the other films listed on this page. Actually I liked The Game until the ending, which totally ruined the rest of the film for me.

Master of My Domain
One of these days Gideon is going to unearth threads from the 1980s
Gideon should be part of an ancient artifact excavating team. Would make the job much easier.

It's happened twice in the same thread; I would've thought that impossible.

I honestly never noticed that. Gideon reviving his own zombie posts? I need to learn from this guy
