Blimey, I forgot one:

Eden Lake

Watkins, 2008

Effective thriller that does not cop out at the end. One of the better "Oops, we ran into the wrong people in the woods" type films I have seen. Fassbender is always good, as well.

This movie should have been called Karma. I was worried at first that this was going to leave me distant because we were spending so much time with only one story line. I didn't realize it would jump and spend just as much time with the others. Really great story telling. The brutality of the world these characters live in really comes through, this movie is blood soaked. All three stories were very compelling. Well done, another Innaritu gem in my opinion. I have one feature left to see, 21 Grams. I will also be giving Babel another look as it is the only film of his I didn't care for thus far. Brilliant film maker.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Rams is quietly powerful, and the Iceland locations and cinematography are affecting, but it's very slow and it seems to borrow key plot points from Hud and Ordet which makes it seem more familiar than it should be. I recommend it with reservations as a glimpse into a remote world and way of life.

June, 2016 movies watched-

Othello (1952)
+ Hard for me to judge because it was hard for me to follow.

I'm All Right Jack (1959)
British comedy that's not my normal brand of humor, but funny and well done.

The King and I (1956)
Not for me.

Floating Weeds
Not quite one of my favorites from director Ozu, but I greatly appreciated that it was a little different.

Great Day in the Morning
- Pretty decent western.

Always (1989)
- A little corny, but a very nice story with likable actors.

Vertigo (1958) Repeat viewing
Slower than I remembered, but spellbinding.

Dirty Grandpa (2016)
- Not what most of us would call a good movie, but I laughed hard and often.

A Place in the Sun (1951)
If you like melodrama, this one is strong in every way.

Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957)
Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster make something out of what would otherwise be an average western.

Giant (1956)
Very good 200 minute epic, but I think it lacks the wow factor needed to be great.

The Earrings of Madame De... (1953)
This movie has a lot going for it, but I never found myself caring about the narrative.

Genevieve (1953)
+ Very light and likable British comedy.

Goodnight Mommy (2014)
- The last half hour makes the movie after a relatively lifeless first hour.

The Music Room (1958)
Not bad, but my least favorite out of 6 tries from director Ray.

People Will Talk (1951)
- Probably my biggest surprise while watching the 50's.

The Belles of St. Trinian's (1954)
British comedy that wasn't bad, but was underwhelming for me.

The Hanging Tree (1959)
- A good cast and a slightly sleazy side make this a very good western.

13 Hours (2016)
Solid action film, although it's not the type of action I prefer.

Lilya 4-Ever (2002)
+ A powerful story filmed with the gritty style that makes feel real.

Diary of a Country Priest (1951)
I wasn't all that into it, but it was very well done.

Invaders from Mars (1953)
+ Easy to watch and not much else.

Total June viewings- 22
Total 2016 viewings- 174

No clue how I averaged over 40 movies a month for 2 years.

Blue Ruin is very good, excellent at points. Think it is still on Netflix. I'm looking forward to Green Riom although it sounds quite a bit more violent than Blue Ruin. I like single location stuff most of the time though.

I really was enjoying this film for the first two-thirds. It wasn't going to be a new favorite or anything but it was sweet and whimsical. The visuals were really pleasing. I loved the dream pool and the look of BFG's home. It was feeling fresh, like a fairy tale but one I had never seen before. Then comes the final third, and the story lost me. Everything once more humans are introduced felt stale and childish in a Nickelodeon kind of way. Plus the mixing of the visuals didn't work for me, makes the artificiality of the giant's world stand out too much. Not a complete loss but ended up being a bit of a bummer.

Jaws:

My third time with the great Jaws. My seven year old watched it with me which was interesting. A couple parts grabbed him but luckily I didn't scar him for life, he loved it. I really took note of the cinematography this time. I love some of the shots. The beach scene before the pond attack is shot so great. We get all these different views but in smooth transitions. I especially like the shot where the camera is bobbing below and above the water with the waves. This was my first time watching my Blu-ray, and it did not disappoint, it looks incredible. That score. One of the greats for a reason.
