Screenwriter Derek Kolstad has constructed a straight up action thriller that combines a quiet tongue in cheek quality to the story as well as populating the story with good guys pretending to be bad guys and bad guys pretending to be good.

I really didn't know where the movie was going to go after it's flashforward and I was disappointed to find that after Wick goes on his killing spree to avenge his first dog, he ends the movie by replacing it with another.

In "John Wick" you have a stolen car and a dead dog on the one hand, and on the other hand an increasing number of corpses.

A movie like John Wick is perfect for him.

John Wick is not supposed to be a particularly good movie, but it's a solid enough action thriller that manages to make just enough of a variation on its familiar premise to be entertaining.

Wick learns that it was Iosef Tarasov (Alfie Allen), Wick's former boss' son, who stole his car and, more importantly, destroyed Wick's last living link to his wife, his "semblance of hope."

Everything about the film feels smooth as ice, just like John Wick.

The director builds a great aura around John Wick's character---even hardened gangsters are supposed to quake in their boots at the very mention of his name....the father of the gangster who stole his car phones John Wick to try to pacify him....to no avail , but of course....
