Cape Fear boasts a well chosen cast that's lead by Nick Nolte playing the lawyer, who's efforts to maintain his sanity are challenged by the law being manipulated by De Niro's demented rapist, forbidding the lawyer from taking drastic actions.

Martin Scorsese followed up his masterpiece Goodfellas with a blistering and bloody remake of Cape Fear which is best remembered for the bone-chilling, Oscar-nominated performance from Robert De Niro in the lead.

His wife and daughter (Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis respectively) also get more to work with than merely playing the victim - Lewis's interactions with de Niro make for the most unsettling scenes in the film.

In an effort to keep it simple, I'll conclude by saying that while it certainly isn't the best movie that I have seen from Martin Scorsese, the movie has a tremendous performance from Robert De Niro, as well as a solid performance from Nick Nolte.

Robert De Niro plays Max Cady, an ex-con who seeks revenge on Sam Bowden, the man who played a role in sending Cady to prison for 14 years.

The movie will surprise you with some really great looking scenes , even from Scorsese - who you automatically assume is going to make the film look polished.

Scorsese's own spin on the material is quite different, though keeping the same main plot points and conflicts, a more complex morality tale for a more complex time.
