The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight (1 view)

Right in the first couple minutes you will forget about the ridiculously bad - original Batman movies directed by Tim Burton. This movie is a spectacle of visuals , acting , and writing. The experience opens with a beautiful shot of a skyscraper and the huge city surrounding it - until a window is smashed out and a couple men in clown masks grapple out of it onto the roof of a bank. This amazing opening shot is just a small taste of whats to come.

Unlike it's predecessor Batman Begins , the film focuses on three different events at all times. It also doesn't just focus on one character anymore , but is more of an ensemble. It is a very fast moving story and I challenge you to lose interest at all during the entire course of the film. Morality is one of the biggest themes - The Joker who wants above all else to destroy Gotham City , Batman who wants to stop fighting crime and pursue a normal life with Rachel Dawes , Harvey Dent who's sense of honor and fairness change when he becomes Two Face.

Christian Bale becomes Bruce Wayne as well as he does Batman. He isn't just there to wear the Bat suit , but to complete the film as he should. Heath Ledger's last performance as The Joker is the ultimate force that drives this emotionally charged character into an iconic state. Aaron Eckhart is another guy with a two sided role , the majority of the film he is the public hero of Gotham until his inevitable accident that destroys half of his face : this is another character who you can't get enough of.

The visuals in this movie are constantly awe inspiring bringing tons of the most complex and detailed images you will ever see in a film. One of my biggest problems with Batman Begins was the action scenes just were terribly shot and not a lot of fun at all. Every gigantic action scene in this movie is not only done perfectly - but sometimes reaches levels that no other film has yet to do. The gigantic city of Gotham (Chicago) , is a very big part of what you see on screen and everything that happens in the movie revolves around the landscape of the buildings.

This is without a doubt the absolute best super-hero/comic movie of all time. It's scope is gigantic and it's grip tight , The Dark Knight is a film that must not be missed by anyone.

Is this appropriate for kids ? : If your thinking about if you should take your kids to see this , especially if they are younger - you might want to check it out first and decide if they can handle the pretty brutal violence. When I saw this - there were a bunch of kids in the audience with their parents and such , nobody dared to walk out.
