Kung Fu Panda (1 view)

Dreamworks latest CGI movie is according to many a homage to old martial arts films of the 60's. I would never know this seeing how I haven't seen them , so I really didn't find the story as predictable as others say. That said , I did find the film fun and enjoyed action scenes - but it's definitely far behind it's competition Ratatouille and Wall-E.
To me Dreamworks in general has always been a very sub-par animation studio , releasing very poorly written and poorly animated films like Shark Tale and Madagascar - though this extra ambitious effort easily makes its way to the top of their filmography.
The movie centers around it's main character a panda bear named Po. He dreams to be a kung-fu warrior , but in reality he works at his fathers noodle shop. Not far into the movie he is chosen as the "dragon warrior" in an accident involving a fireworks strapped chair. This is a huge surprise to the actual fighting masters who have trained their whole lives to become the dragon warrior. Meanwhile a powerful evil fighter has broken loose from his prison of a thousand guards.
The all star voice cast for this hugely compliments the animation. Jack Black is too perfect in this and he has quickly become a favored actor of mine with his role in Be Kind Rewind. It seems very overkill how you have all these famous actors with about 5 lines - Jackie Chan , David Cross , and Seth Rogen being prime examples.
My favorite part of the movie is the amazing 2D/3D intro - which gets your expectations for the rest of the movie so high : I felt a tad disappointed when action was a little more absent here than it should have been. The story is fine to get you here a from to the awesome action sequences , but if the characters actually had some interesting depth it could have been up there with my favorites.
