Mars Attacks!

Mars Attacks

"Martians. Ha ha. Funny looks little critters, aren't they?"

In 1994 Tim Burton came out with a film about the proclaimed worst director of all-time Ed Wood Jr. this film looks like something he would create with an A-list cast and brilliant effects.

The style of the film isn't Burton-esque, per-say and won't "launch a thousand goths" like many of his films have. It is more in the style of an Ed Wood Jr. movie. It's plot is out there, acting is cheesy, characters borderline on insane, and is all completely hilarious.

The plot, first off is stupid, but stupid fun. It wouldn't be much of a surprise to you to say that aliens come, we think they are friends, they end up killing us, we somehow start fighting our way back and <insert character name here> probably dies. Tim Burton actually did this right with the plot line, he never took it too serious and even has a bit of fun. He turns Sarah Jessica Parker's head on a dog (I would have preferred a horse,) he makes someone get impaled by an Alien flag, and has someone's finger bitten off. Seeing A-list (and future A-list) stars get killed is fun!

The acting is cheesy, but it is supposed to be? The likes of Jack Nicholson, Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Jessica Parker (okay, she does bad a lot,) Danny DeVito, and Glenn Close are all funny. The love scene between Pierce and SJP had me in stitches with how bad it was, if this wasn't satire, I am sorry, you all should be shot.

The characters also boarderline on insane. Danny DeVito finally (note the sarcasm) plays a short little scoundrel, but this I think he was at his dirtiest, willing to almost sell his own mother's soul to get out of the martian attack, or better yet team with them. Rod Steiger's turn as the general is also hilarious. His 'USA' speech, which once you see this movie (and I do recommend you do) you'll know what I am talking about, is legendary and totally satirically. It will go down right with the bomb scene in Dr. Strangelove.

So, if you are looking for a good bad time. Mars Attacks is something to watch.
