This movie was once in the IMDB top 250?
I know a lot of people are fans of this so I'll be careful, but I hated this movie! First of all, the way Tristan was conceived, talk about his mom being a slut, she sleeps with Tristan's future dad (he was a sperm at the time) after 2 minutes, now never reading the book I hope that this is changed.
I also hated the character that Tristan liked Victoria. I hated her, so I hated his motives behind this whole story. I kept thinking, "okay, so you are doing this for a complete and total witch with a b. (See post below for another one of my thoughts of this character.)
Another problem I had with a character was Yvaine's MAJOR mood swing. She went from hating the way he saved her to loving him for it. Also, I really hated the fact that in the first 10 minutes that we meet her, all she does is complain. Granted that his methods for catching her weren't the best, but she got so annoying!
On the plus side, the directing style was awesome. A lot of the shots were very cool and pleasant to look at. The CGI was flawless, there wasn't enough to make me completely forget reality, but enough to take me to a mystical world.
The final thing I must leave you with was the wasted talent. Robert De Niro, you know him, that big old mobster, won two Oscars? With what screen time they did give him, they gave him a hideously stereotyped role as a wimpy cross-dresser.What are you doing Mr. De Niro?
