Amityville II: The Possession

Amityville II: The Possession (1982) r

Didn't like the first film that much and sequel doesn't improve my impression of this franchise.

Little unconventional family dynamics in the making.

Second movie in the series is pretty much an extended introduction from the original meaning we see the events leading to murders referenced in The Amityville Horror as well as some of their aftermath. For some reason the whole murder sequence is completely different from the original and killer doesn't look anything like the husband in the first film. Anyways, if you've seen the first you already know what's going to happen.

Early parts of the movie are actually pretty decent. It's little creepy and some of the shots are interesting. Also the family's internal issues support the events nicely. Somewhere little after mid-point the film takes a heavy dive though. From Sonny's birthday party on the film not only breaks continuity with its predecessor but also turns into crappy The Exorcist clone. Everything after the murders is very bad (oh my god, the ending in the house felt like Exorcist II rip-off - of all the movies why would anyone want to rip-off from that).

Acting is mostly fine only weak point being the priest. Relationship between Sonny and Patricia was well introduced but the, eh, climax was sort of clumsy. Effects were decent. Too much time spent on church politics and Sonny "bubbling" in his room. Unfortunately I have to say this is a bad movie.
