Brian De Palma is working on an adaptation of James Ellroy's classic (in my opinion) novel, "The Black Dahlia". I don't have much faith that this will turn out well... I mean, come on, Josh ...

Cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond and Brian De Palma have the noir style down perfect in Dahlia and whenever I got bored, which was 90 percent of the film, I would try to get lost in the atmosphere this film creates.

There's also something a bit ham-fisted about the way that the film tries to walk the line between the more exploitative elements of the Dahlia's story and the way that it also tries to garner sympathy for her.

DePalma, while a competent enough technician if you're making a television commercial or music video that's mostly about image and doesn't need to worry too much about narrative, has no idea how to stage and then pace a film properly.
