At 14, best friends Robb Reiner and Lips made a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the "demi-gods of Canadian metal" influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams.

The film begins with many of heavy metal's demigods extolling the awesomeness of Canada's metal monster band Anvil and their debut album, Metal on Metal which influenced them.

Anvil was right along side with the other big names in metal when it's popularity was nearing it's peak , but they are the band that didn't make it big.

The wildest section of the film is the middle act, in which band members Lips Kudlow and Robb Reiner embark on a months long tour of Europe coordinated by a well-meaning woman who is in way, way over her head.
