Subliminal Messages

I read somewhere that was a messed up prop or something, but hey, you never know.

In the beginning of A Fish Called Wanda, subliminal messages and product placement are deconstructed by John Cleese. You ought to check it out.

Well, whatever it is, I just don't like that ridiculous theory that it's some sort of ghost. I've actually met people who believe that kind of stuff. Give me a break.

For subliminal message stuff, check out Night Chills by Dean Kontz. Crazy stuff. I think this is actually the second time I've mentioned that book...

The Wizard of Oz thing is said to be a crane (as in the bird), but it can look like a person hanging himself.

How bout Wayne's World!?

There's the scene where Wayne refuses to bow to Products. LOL.

I have been told that it is supposedly a person hanging themselves, and in the remastered version they took it out. So if you want to see it you have to watch an older version. Three Men and Baby, I've heard the thing about the ghost, and find it hilarious to think that people actually believe things like that. I can't think of any others right now that stick out, but visit Easter Eggs and most of the time there is a huge list of movies that have hidden messages or other things in them.

Have you noticed that the Disney movies tend to put messages in whatever seems to be there, say for instance in Lion King, when the Simba plops down on the rock and the dust flies up it spells sex. In Aladdin, a voice comes on and says something I forget, but there's been a lot of controversy on that. In Emperor's New Groove, when Kuzco gets trapped in the bridge after Patcha does, pieces of the bridge fall after Kuzco does and it appears to be letters, but I can't figure out what it is.

It's amazing what directors, or even just staff on a movie will put in there to make you look for it.

I honestly don't believe all that. In case anyone is wondering, here are the most common myths:
  • In "The Lion King," when Simba plops down near the edge of a cliff, a bunch of dust/specks fly up off the ground, and appear to spell out (albeit vaguely), the word "Sex."
  • In "The Little Mermaid," the Minister presiding over the wedding appears to have an erection over his robe, but it is actually just his knee...you see in other shots that he is very short.
  • On the cover/box of "The Little Mermaid," some argue that one of the golden towers resembles a penis...one of the claims included as part of this myth says that one of the Disney artists had been told he was going to be laid off/fired/cutback/whatever, and included the phallic symbol to extract vengenace from his future ex-employers.
  • Some say that, if you listen closely to what is said in the balcony scene in "Aladdin," right around the time he says "Down, kitty," you'll hear him say "All teenagers take off your clothes."
In my opinion, none of these are for real. I believe Snopes.com has a bunch of "articles" that dispel these myths. They specialize in debunking urban legends.

Well, on Lion King, it's not vague, you can see it, but like that and the Aladdin one are the only two that I have ever heard of. I looked for myself, couldn't understand it clearly on Aladdin, but you can hear something in the background. I never really cared, just found it interesting.

All those are true TWT except the Aladdin one.

I could swear I saw a penis at the end of Fight Club. But that might just be my rotting mind.

Fight Club is a good one for subliminal messages. You can see Tyler Durden for just a frame, three times before we get to meet him.

Well, you're not imagining things. Yes, you do see a penis at the end. That's the director's way of saying thanks for watching my movie. LOL. He only put it there because Tyler Durden worked at a theater and spliced reels with bits of porno.

You also see Tyler Durden popup through out the movie.

The "SEX" in the Lion King doesn't say sex. It says "SFX", the company that did the special effects.

On the cover of the Little Mermaid, those are peni. It was an intended type of subliminal messaging. Falic and vaginal hints arouse buyers, and are in almost any ad you will see these days. The reason it was on the cover of the Little Mermaid was to unknowingly encourage parents to buy it.

I'm writing my 11th grade extended resarch paper on the effects of Subliminal Messaging on the concious mind, crazy stuff. Check out: http://www.mindreasearch.com

They are minarets. It just so happens that minarets have a phallic look to them.

I'd like to know how you know why Disney had rather penile looking minarets on the box cover when Disney themselves (and nobody involved with the design) has never given that explanation. People see all sorts of things that aren't there in all sorts of advertising in the same way that people see shapes in clouds or inkblots (and just like with the inkblots, what people see says more about the viewer than the picture itself).

Study after study after study shows that people don't process information quickly enough to be effected by subliminal messages. James Vicary's widely circulated movie theater experiment was bogus and could never be replicated. Vicary himself later noted that he faked the data.

Subliminal advertising doesn't work. It never has worked. And any company that went to the trouble of doing research to try and find out that phallic symbols in the background sell videos would actually find out that those images do no such thing.

Doesn't work? If it doesn't work why was Camel sued for their "Smooth Character" cartoon? It is the most effective subliminal ad ever created. Before the ad was released, underaged people purchasing cigarettes was .15% of the US population, with the release it quickly jumped to 24%. And I mean quickly.

It does work, just not on the grand scale everyone thinks it does. Some people are more effected than others and vice versa. But it does work.

And for the purpose of my paper can you tell me where you got that info Ryan?
