The flashback story in Part 2 ends after Vito has avenged his parents' death, by killing Don Tommasino. As they flee, Vito's collaborator is shot, and we then go back into Michael's 'present day' story.
Should Vito's story have had an 'ending' within Part 2?
I presume COPPOLA either felt that he could not have 2 endings in the same film, or alternatively felt it did not need an ending due to Part 1, or possibly that he wanted to leave room for a potential sequel.
With that in mind, is there room for another episode picking up from the escape in Corleone, to Connie's wedding or to somewhere prior to that?
Edit: Actually there was another short scene where he got on the train and said goodbye (presumably to go back to America). I guess that was the ending.
