If your mood said one of these, what would also work?

Need recommendations for some absurd fiction with the right energy. Ideally in the ballpark of these:

Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)
Office Space (1999)
Palm Springs (2020)

Or if not then these:

Wristcutters: A Love Story (2007)
K-Pax (2001)
Frequency (2000)

Or even these long faces:

Unbreakable (2000)
The Man From Earth (2007)
Flatliners (1990)

If you still can't think of anything then maybe something lighter and sillier like:

What Women Want (2000)
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Happy Gilmore (1996)

Don't be shy

Okay, maybe one of these:

Love, Concord
The Nine Lives of Tomas Katz
Computer Chess
Kitchen Stories
Die, Mommie, Die!
Next Stop Wonderland
Happy Accidents
Brother from Another Planet
Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes
I'm a Cyborg, but That's Okay
Swiss Army Man

A bit darker:
Brothers' Nest
Crush the Skull
Brand Upon the Brain
The Wild Boys
The Beta Test
The Kid Detective
The One I Love
Wolf of Snow Hollow

Thanks, wow that's a lot of suggestions. And I've seen only two of them: Happy Accident, which I quite liked and kinda expected would be suggested, and Swiss Army man, which I wasn't a fan of. Care to boil it down a bit to maybe a few you think would fit the bill the most?

Okay, so I was trying to hit both the "absurd" part of the prompt and what I think of in terms of the vibes of the movies you listed. I reverse-sorted my rated movies on IMDb to try to get lesser-seen films. For each one, I'll tell you my thinking, because it was always some mix of the plot element and the vibes:

Love, Concord: It's been a while since I watched this film, and I remember it being an oddball, very likable romantic comedy.
The Nine Lives of Tomas Katz: This movie is weird, and to me it hits both the absurd part and the odd vibes
*Computer Chess: An off-kilter sci-fi comedy.
Kitchen Stories: This is a vibes recommendation. A man is assigned to observe someone as part of a study, and sits in this high chair in the man's kitchen.
Die, Mommie, Die!: This is another vibes recommendation, though the plot is absurd. It's sort of a parody of melodrama films, with a ridiculous number of twists.
*Next Stop Wonderland: You've seen Happy Accidents, and this is its low-key, not sci-fi cousin.
Brother from Another Planet: Again: vibes. But also that sci-fi/comedy/drama intersection. There's a standout sequence with Joe Morton's character watching a young woman play an arcade game.
*Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes: Sort of like Palm Springs in the way that it puts the emphasis on the "rules" of the sci-fi, but it's also just very funny.
*I'm a Cyborg, but That's Okay: This is the Safety Not Guaranteed cousin on my list.

A bit darker:
Brothers' Nest: This isn't absurd, but it's darkly funny.
Crush the Skull: This is admittedly more of a comedy-horror, but, I don't know, maybe a bit a la Shaun of the Dead?
*Brand Upon the Brain: I don't know if you've seen much from Guy Maddin, but this is maybe a bit akin to Wristcutters? I don't know---Maddin's work is really its own thing.
The Wild Boys: This is a very weird movie, vibes!
*The Beta Test: This one and Wolf of Snow Hollow, and I think both are dark comedies with some of that absurd/awkward energy you get in some of the films you listed.
*The Kid Detective: I can't quite explain why I put this one here. It's a bit melancholy and emotional. It just felt right!
The One I Love: Again, the vibes!

I've gone through and put a star next to the ones I think best fit what you're looking for.

It's a bit tricky. I tried to identify movies that fit the "absurd fiction" piece, and that made me feel the way that the ones you listed also made me feel. The first part of this was easy, and the second part was hard. If I had to pick just one: Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes.

Hey thanks a bunch for the detailed answer! Highly appreciated. After reading the descriptions I think I may have to check out all of these.

Yeah absurd was probably not the best word choice but you seem to have seen all the movies I listed and also seem to get what they have in common for me and why I like them.

By reading your description I realized I must have seen Kitchen Stories after all. Sounds like a Swedish/Norwegian movie called Salmer fra kjøkkenet. It's been a long time though. I remember it being OK.

Absurdness is indeed tricky, as movies can be absurd in highly different ways. Some I love, some not at all. So I though listing examples might be more efficient/descriptive for expressing what versions/angles of absurd/odd/weird I had in mind.

Yeah, I think that the word I kept thinking of (and rejecting) was "quirky", but that doesn't seem quite right.

All of the films listed in my original post are ones I rated 7 or higher. I do tend to give longer lists of recommendations, because I'm never sure if someone wants more of a straight comedy, a comedy-drama, something heavier on the absurdity, etc.

Another point in the favor of Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes is that it has a very short runtime!

Maybe instead of K-Pax, you watch the film the idea was stolen from - Man Facing Southeast.

I've seen it but didn't think many others had so didn't include it
