Masters of the Universe - starring Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man

Tools

Masters of the Universe has found its He-Man.

Nicholas Galitzine, who recently starred in Amazon MGM rom-com The Idea of You, has been cast in the studio’s live-action Masters movie, which has Travis Knight set to direct.

Knight will direct from a screenplay by Chris Butler. Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner and Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing.

Masters centers on Price Adam of Eternia who, thanks to his Power Sword, turns into He-Man and is embued with superhuman strength and abilities, which he uses to defend his native planet and Castle Grayskull.

Masters has been dated by Amazon for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2026.

Mattel’s Masters of the Universe brand was first introduced in 1982 via a line of action figures and later, in 1983, became the beloved animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. A Masters movie has had a long development history in Hollywood, moving from Sony to Netflix to Amazon MGM, with several filmmakers and stars attached. (Noah Centineo was previously taped to play He-Man when the film was at Netflix.)

For his part, Galitzine has a long relationship with Amazon. Prior to co-starring in rom-com The Idea of You with Anne Hathaway, he was in the young adult adaptation Red, White, & Royal Blue, which is getting a sequel from the studio. He was also in the Amazon title Cinderella, the movie musical that starred Camila Cabello.

Seems like an odd choice. I didn't care for his performance in The Idea of You and he doesn't look like he-man to me.
I thought he was very charming in it!

Plus, they've got makeup and they will probably dye his hair.

I actually do see a strong resemblance.

Joining Jared Leto and Alison Brie as villains

Sam C. Wilson as Trap-Jaw

Hafþor Bjornsson as Goat Man

Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops

Sounds like an interesting cast.

Frank Langella’s Skeletor lives rent-free in my brain.

Well, I hope the cast is ready to start getting bones in the mail.

I'm sure I don't know what that means

Frank Langella’s Skeletor lives rent-free in my brain.
Same... and has since circa 1988. It's somewhat similar to when Sonic the Hedgehog became SUPER SONIC or GOLDEN SONIC! in the original Sega Genesis games with the cheat on:

Great classic 1980's I know this material is utterly ridiculous and instead of playing it tongue-in-cheek, I'm going to play this 100-percent legit and straight as though I'm mugging for an Academy Award greatness!!!
