All Good Things Andrew Jarecki

Magnolia Pictures has just released the trailer for All Good Things starring Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst. The film is directed by Andrew Jarecki (Capturing the Friedmans) and written by the writing duo Marcus Hinchey and Marc Smerling. The film was inspired by the story of Robert Durst (Gosling), scion of the wealthy Durst family. Durst was suspected but never tried for killing his wife Kathie (Dunst) who disappeared in 1982 and was never found. The original script was developed by Jarecki, Smerling and Hinchey.

The film is being eyed as a potential Oscar contender and co-stars Frank Langella, Lily Rabe, Philip Baker Hall, Nick Offerman and Kristen Wiig. Magnolia picked the film up back in late August and will send it into theaters on December 3rd.

For Gosling this will be one of two roles that could potentially earn him an Oscar nomination. Right now I have him on the outside looking in in my #6 slot in the Best Actor race for his role in Blue Valentine. Right now it's a pretty tough race as I think there are only two slots up for grabs with Colin Firth (The King's Speech), Robert Duvall (Get Low) and James Franco (127 Hours) as locks for nominations.

I recently moved Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) into the top five (which would actually make him the tenth youngest nominee ever) and added Gosling's All Good Things performance to the race as I didn't previously have him in there.

Looks interesting... but I might wait until it hits DVD to check it out... Wonder if the real case was ever solved and if not, if this will spark new interest...

Has Oscars become so predictable & cheap?
yes, pretty much.

But really, the author on rope of silicon speculates a lot, he was just adding Gosling out of hype to his little oscar prediction game.

Potential Oscar Contender??

The movie hasn't even released yet... I am sure few must have already had a special screening..
Has Oscars become so predictable & cheap?
Is it a serious drama/thriller being released during Oscar season? If so, then yes, Oscar contender. I think that also answers the predictable and cheap part of the sentence, too.

I was thinking just the other week about how rare genuinely good Hollywood/American films are to find these days, and Oscar bait is part of the problem. Whether that's what this film is or not, I don't know.
