Resident Evil

I saw this tonight , it is a lot better the you would think.

Ok let's start with the acting. Sure it wasn't top notch , but it was good for atleast this type of movie. Milla Jovovich did a half-way decent job as did Michelle Rodriguez.

The Plot of course had many problems but what do you expect for this kind of movie? It starts off promising enough , goes downhill a little and then picks back up towards the middle. That last shot definatley left room for a sequal , cause Paul Anderson said if it does good this weekend , he is starting the script for Resident Evil 2 on monday. That's kinda quick lol.

Anyway it made you jump alot but it wasn't like disturbingly scary. The Zombies looked really cool and so did the Licker. The Action was good , but the two obvious Matrix rip offs were just stupid and cheesy. The first one is the one we always see in the commercial where she does that leap off the wall and kicks the dog in the head. The second one was towards the end it shows a bullet going slo-mo or "bullet time" but at least it didnt show somebody dodging it Matrix Style.

So Overall it was an enjoyable film. I went in with low expectations and came out surprised. As Long as you go in not caring about the acting , the plot ect , and just relax , you should have a good time.

Overall I give it *** out of ****.(The second best movie this year so far IMO.)

Female assassin extraordinaire.
twas ok (makes so-so gesture). too much vulnerable nude Milla Jovovich (including sexy flashbacks) and I will NEVER understand why she didn't get a gun until halfway through the picture and even then only on loan.

And Michelle Rodriguez (as much as I love her) REALLY needs to find another facial expression to put into her repertoire because rolling-eyed chin out heavy duty pout/sneer + tough cutie with chip on shoulder and Vin Diesel libido is not always going to cut it. there were also way too many monsters - overkill on game scenario. in the game you encounter at max 4 in a room at a time and that's how you survive. when you go see this you'll see what I mean - no way is someone going to survive a room full of zombies with one gun with 8 bullets left.

But i like how they handled the whole long dramatic FMV sequences (in real life, a serious conversation where people don't tell the whole truth while monsters are creeping about down the hall - just like the game!). needed a few more lickers that weren't quite so big but I understand, got a budget and trying to make a bigger bang. but yeah, this is obviously set up to handle Nemesis, which is mentioned at the end, the second in the game series. i never played it, but heard about it. we shall see ...

2.75/5 stars, maybe 3 if I'm in a good mood.

Having never played the games I didn't know what to expect, but it was an alright movie. Stomach churning, panic inducing kinda movie.

Music was too damn loud though. You get to see the new look for Jason however with the trailer for Jason X.

This movie was one of the best horror movies of the 21st century.

Why you ask???
Everything about the movie screamed terrifying to me, and if you notice it, it was very much like the games themselves. It explained the story very well, the acting was superb, the zombies were terrifying, the darkness added to the feel of the movie, fast-paced, mysterious twist, and above all...the soundtrack really captured the feel and essence of the experience.

I saw this movie in the comfort of my own room, watching it on a 15 inch monitor in the dark on SVCD. I was ****ting myself! (mind you I was smashed as well).

My hats go off to the director/writer, music composer (Marilyn Manson) and, of course, the cast.

Comments....anyone!?!?

***Please e-mail me your thoughts on Resident Evil at this address. I would love to hear somebody else's opinion on it as I was probably the first to see it in Australia:

No comment, because we're all in the shoutbox talking about The Oscars right now. Hey, maybe Resident Evil will be up for Best Picture next year?!?

Good one, huh?

Did I watch the same film as everyone else?

I found the action unengaging, the plot, why are people talking about a plot? what plot? the actors? I mean Milla is great to look at, let's not despute that fact, but what else did she do? Rodriguez played the exact same character as in the Fast and the Furious, i'm sure another cheap B-Movie is diversifying her portfolio as an actress, oh god I'm in the mood to rip this film apart. Since when is Kung-Fu kicking a zombie going to do anything? they're the walking dead ffs

The more I think about this movie, the more I hate it. I mean it's creepy it's everything a horror movie could be, and that's exactly why it's a terrible movie.

Most horror movies are known for having little to no plot, as did this one. So, in terms of greatness, it fell very very short.

As for watching it in the dark in your room on a 15 inch monitor, SINNER!!!

I originally saw this title littered somewhere round this site and lo and behold a week later it was on tele:

http://us.imdb.com/Title?0109592 - Dellamorte Dellamore / Cemetary Man starring Rupert Everett

That's what you call a good flick

I didn't find Resident Evil to be creepy at all, just tedious and irritating.

I didn't think it was horrible, but I can't bring myself to give it more than 5/10... It had some positives, but the few that existed were drowned out by the movie's weaknesses.

Look,

I thought the movie was terrific. I think if you're an avid player of the games, then you can appreciate the way the movie's structured. It explained itself very well. Didn't leave anything out. I mean i didn't leave a thing out. (You even notice the main bad guy get onto the train just as the team do.) The zombies really sent chills down my spine(Especially the one in the tank of water that puts her hand on the glass. Mind you, I got extremely scared by the Blair Witch Project...Only because of the fact that I got it before anyone else in Australia and nobody could even review it so I didn't know what I was up for.
The biggest high point about the movie was the soundtrack. It went so well with the scenes and gave you that feel. I loved it.

BTW - our VCD player will not play copied CD's (Drawback to purchasing Sony equipment) so I could only watch it on my PC. However, here in Australia, it doesn't get released for another month but I will still see it at the movies to get the box office funds it deserved.
The soundtrack hasn't even come out here and I've got it. It rulez. Manson rulez.

I gathered that this movie would displease most, particularly for the fact that not too many people would have played the games and have followed the story enough to appreciate it.

I have played the games (well, Code Veronica at least) and I still didn't enjoy it all that much. The zombies were solid, but could have been better. I really would have loved to see what Romero could have done with this movie. It wasn't horrible, but certainly not one of the greatest horror movies of all time, or even the last few years.

I used to be an avid gamer, and I can tell you now they're not exactly the greatest source of inspiration for movie plots... I've played all the PC releases and despite the enjoyment would have never liked to see this being made into a film... if a new release of the game came out i'm instantly going to slap my forehead and think "oh no! it's resident evil"

this picture's forever tarnished it's name

I ain't gettin' in no fryer!
Well, I think that some games have well thought out plot lines, but when someone goes to make it into a movie jacks it up (Final Fantasy).

Granted my taste in movies was not quite as evolved as it is now, but I really enjoyed Mortal Kombat when it first came out... one of those guilty pleasures

Having played all of the games in the Resident Evil series, I guess I just had higher expectations for this movie. Whoever thinks that this stayed close to the original storyline, I guess you and I haven't played the same game...

If I had went in to the movie not knowing a thing about the series, I would have given this movie 2.5 out of 5. But alas, it really only deserves 1.5 out of 5. This movie definetely has hurt the image that Resident Evil carried.
