Movie Poster a Day with JayDee
March 3rd
All the world's a stage. Well that's certainly the case for the world of Truman Burbank. A clever design this one that plays into the fact that everything is fake an orchestrated; his whole life is a performance. #94 on the list
The Truman Show
(1998, d. Peter Weir / Artist - Matt Ryan Tobin)
Event Horizon
(1997, d. Paul W. S. Anderson / Artist - Chris Garofalo)

There's nothing much to say about this one; it's just creepy as f*ck!!! It does however make me nostalgic for MovieGal. Whatever happened to her? #93 on the list

I couldn't get through the movie Event Horizon, but that poster looks like something M.C. Escher would draw.

Fairly quick intros tonight. #90 on the list went to The War of the Worlds; one of the many flying saucer movies of the 1950s. This poster has a lovely pulpy feel to it; I can imagine it being the cover to one of those old sci-fi magazines that featured stories from the likes of Isaac Asimov and Harlan Ellison
War of the Worlds
(1953, d. Byron Haskin / Artist - Stan & Vince)
I'm gonna wreck it!!! 89th place went to the rather brilliant Wreck-It Ralph. And to represent it we turn once again to Tom Whalen; a man who really specialises in work for animated films
Wreck-It Ralph
(2012, d. Rich Moore / Artist - Tom Whalen)

As you know, I don't like most of the posters you've posted on here. It's just not my thing and I think most of them look pretty crap.

By Grabthar's hammer...what a poster! I promise that makes sense if you've seen the film. While I'm sure HK will disagree I think this is a lovely looking poster; rather Drew Struzan-esque in design. #88 from the list
Galaxy Quest
(1999, d. Dean Parisot / Artist - Richard Davies)
Back to the Future Part III
(1990, d. Robert Zemeckis / Artist - Matt Taylor)
Galaxy Quest
(1999, d. Dean Parisot / Artist - Richard Davies)
Perhaps unsurprisingly there's nowhere near as much material for the 3rd part of the Back to the Future trilogy as for the first, or even second films in the series. However I quite liked this vibrant poster; something a little bit different. #87 on the list

Wow. I like the War Of The Worlds poster, too. Very in keeping with the film.
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the Galaxy Quest one, though it's still a lot better than many of them. The faces look particularly silly.

You don't want to mess with me son. I learned how to argue on the playground. And as you can see I've not really progressed much since.

Silent Running
(1972, d. Douglas Trumbull / Poster Origin - Spain / Artist - Macario Gomez Quibus aka Mac)
Donnie Darko
(2001, d. Richard Kelly / Artist - New Flesh)
For the 86th film on the list we have the rather attractive, vibrantly coloured brushwork of this Spanish poster. I almost went with the Italian poster from its original release just because of the interesting bit of trivia that in Italy it was released as 2002: The Second Odyssey; trying to live off the success of 2001 just a little bit.

At #83 we had someone wearing a stupid bunny suit. Or is it someone wearing a stupid human suit? That's one of life's great philosophical questions

Avatar
(2009, d. James Cameron / Artist - Conrado Salinas)
Guardians of the Galaxy
(2014, d. James Gunn / Artist - Florey)
There's actually not a great deal of material around for Avatar; perhaps it came out just before the big boom of artists reinterpreting movie posters. From the meagre options I plumped for this one. #80 on the list
Avatar
(2009, d. James Cameron / Artist - Conrado Salinas)
In complete contrast there's Guardians of the Galaxy which has literally dozens and dozens of options. With so much choice I've largely just gone with something at random which I think does a nice job of capturing the film's irreverent and entertaining tone.

Well those posters look good. Haven't seen Avatar but pretty sure I'd hate it and was pretty underwhelmed by Guardians.
