ROUND 1, PART 2
1. Gerry Rafferty - Night Owl vs. Van Morrison - Caravan
(Difficult choice. Listened to both twice before making up my mind. I really like "Caravan," but I kinda love "Night Owl" -- although I could've done without the flute. Don't think I've ever head the song before, yet it makes me feel nostalgic nonetheless.)
2. Bob Seger - Come to Poppa vs. Raydio-You Can't Change That
(Bob Segar is one of my mom's favorite artists, so that's always made him seem uncool to me. I don't mind some of his stuff, but I thought this song was just okay. I liked the other song a lot.)
3. Ariel Pink - Bubblegum Dreams vs. Vitamin C - Graduation (Friends Forever)
(Not a fan of either song. "Bubblegum Dreams" is borderline irritating, but "Graduation" is bad enough to inspire millions of drop-outs. Am I a monster for hoping that a school shooter would show up during that obnoxious video?)
4. Ghostpoet - That Ring Down the Drain Kind of Feeling vs. The Lapse - H'a chi
(I like how Zotis is so committed to the Art-House Mafia that even his song nominations aren't in English.)
5. Vince Staples - Rain Come Down vs. Robbie Williams - Come Undone
(Hated the first, disliked the second.)
6. Body Rockers - I like the way you move vs. Van Halen - Dance the Night Away
(Joel called "I Like the Way You Move" sludgy and creepy, which I totally agree with, but I think that quality is what appeals to me most about the song. I'll probably listen to this song the next time I'm beating off outside some chick's bedroom window. It took until the chorus to realize I've heard it before, probably in a commercial or TV show or something. I like Van Halen, but they've never been a favorite, and I've heard that particular song countless times.)
7. Denise Lasalle - Lick It Before You Stick It vs. Mikromusic - Tak mi sie nie chce
(The second song was . . . interesting, but it seemed to go on forever even though it's relatively short. "Lick It Before You Stick It" is the best song I've ever heard about postage stamps.)
8. Paul Revere & The Raiders-Cherokee People vs. Odyssey - Going Back to My Roots
(Very good match-up. Dig both songs. The latter is quite groovy, but I slightly prefer the novelty of "Cherokee People.")
