Cutting Moments (1997)

I watched this because it normally shows up on disturbing movie lists. It turned out that it's a 25 minute short film. It's done seriously, it's done well, and it is pretty sick.

It's on YouTube-

Legend (2015)

Wrath of the Titans

A decent romp of an adventure that provides the missing answer from the first movie - where are the 'titans' of the movie title? The answer: at the very end of the sequel. As disappointing as the first movie, as these movies often are, but at least a few improvements in its CGI provide a few more thrills than the last ride. Furthermore, Kronos looks pretty sick in this movie.

Altogether, it's just not very common to find decent movies based on Greek mythological creatures. The decent few have dated effects, so we'll just have to settle for the trashier and flashier entries like these.

Gilda (1947)

Sublime 40's noir about a small time gambler who ends up working for a casino owner. Aside from the fact this is just an exquisite movie that holds your attention throughout, the chemisty between Hayworth and Ford is fantastic. Its probably too early to say but for me this ranks just as highly as Casablanca and possibly Double Indemnity.

Its cause is also significantly helped by how insanely hot Rita Hayworth is here.

Dark City (Proyas, 1998)

Just like Sean did after watching The Magnificent Ambersons, I probably will talk about this movie whenever possible for about month.

That was a part of the second HOF. I liked it well enough but don't remember a whole lot about it. I should give it another go sometime.

Decided to watch a few of the documentaries that made the countdown i am most interested in before i start my 50s viewing. Overall this was well made with an interesting story, but sadly it was a bit of a disappointment i kind of seen coming. The problem is measuring this against other dirty cop/corruption stories i've read about or seen it ends up a bit underwhelming, it is a pretty basic story of cops starting off stealing some money or taking some bribes to working with or for criminals. A similar story that i find a lot more interesting which as far as i know hasn't had a documentary made of it is the Rampart Scandal which was the inspiration for The Shield, that had the possible involvement of officers in the murders of Tupac and Biggie, officers participating in bank heists, serious violence, etc. In comparison this just seemed like two cops who started off as thieves and ended up a drug dealers lackey. So i think i would have gotten a lot more invested if i hadn't known about similar more outlandish cases. Also i really hated that cheesy, scumbag drug dealer the scenes with him really put me off, i obviously thought Dowd was a complete scumbag too but i at least found him entertaining and surprisingly very honest which you can tell since he basically said exactly the same stuff that he said in his hearing.

The Hateful Eight (2015)
rewatch

Well, I'll be double-dog damned...

My rating for this has changed, but my review will stay the same. Every critique I had and every point I made I still stand by; but as expected my tolerance has heightened and my abilitiy to lean back and moderately enjoy this uneven company of kill-at-will characters is stronger though still stretched out beyond what is needed.

The Social Network is totally brilliant!! You guys are wrronnngg
Yeah Social Network is genius on every single level, I don't know what your watching.
I watched The Social Network, that's what I watched. I couldn't get into it, it bored me. I know most won't agree, but it just didn't grab me.

On the occasion of the International Women's day, I would like to promote "Mary Kom", an Indian movie that was released in 2014. This fine movie is based on the life of a real boxer and an Olympic winner from India who went through a real hardship but achieved an ultimate honor. My ratings 4/5.

Alice: Otherlands - Interesting re-imagining of Alice. Makes for even more interesting stories to come. The small budget does limit these works to mere tidbit-size entertainment that leaves one yearning though. Brevity certainly isn't more effective here.

Alice in Wonderland (2010) - While it retains enough of the coming of age values Lewis Carroll had in mind for the heroine, its by-the-numbers first-half still makes this a dreary trip down the rabbit hole devoid of freshness and creativity. Nothing we've never seen. There's certainly no wonder to be found in this land.

Aw, Deadpool spoiled this for me.

Pickup on South Street (1953)

Two days, two brilliant noirs, this time its Samuel Fullers turn. A pickpocket picks a pocket that gets him into a whole lot of trouble. Begins with a fantastic opening which really sets the tone for the rest of this explosive film. Widmark, Jean Peters and Thelma Ritter are all on top of their game too. Excellent.

Wow... It's a good movie, but it's no The Passion of Joan of Arc.

Where the Dead Go to Die (dir. Jimmy ScreamerClauz, 2012)

Pretty much abysmal on all technical levels but there's clearly a lot of passion involved in the making of it, there's some really neat ideas in it and its also consistently entertaining.
