1. My mother was from Germany, having been born in 1946 after the fall of the Nazi regime. Her father served in the war, as did her uncles, one of whom was an SS officer who was captured by Russians and imprisoned, never to be seen again

2. I once was involved in a gang fight at a school dance in 7th grade, where my brother, cousin, best friend, and I had to fend off multiple kids our age at a school dance. Punches were thrown (including by me that initiated the fracas), and at one point, my cousin literally jumped off a table or chair onto the group.

3. I was once involved in a a boat wreck where it hit something that caused it to slowly sink while we waited for help to arrive. We weren’t sure if they were ever going to make it to us before it sank.
