Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Sex Controversy

Does anyone here on MoFo own GTA: San Andreas for X-Box? If do, read below.

''We didn't want it in the final version,'' explains company rep Rodney Walker. ''So we followed the industry practice of breaking up the code and hiding it.'' Although Rockstar will ship a ''clean'' version later this year, the damage is done. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), the gaming industry's MPAA, has slapped GTA with an Adults Only rating (the equivalent of NC-17), resulting in retailers pulling nearly all existing copies. With Rockstar standing to lose up to $50 million in sales, the government has entered the fray.

Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) promised to introduce legislation setting fines for retailers selling violent or sexually explicit games to minors, and on July 25, Illinois became the first state to criminalize such sales. The same day, the House of Representatives asked the FTC to investigate Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive Software. Rockstar, for its part, now seems contrite. ''We want the [current] system to work,'' says Walker. ''If it's weakened, we're all in trouble.''

I heard about this a while ago. Honestly, the game is rated 17+. Most 17 year olds know what sex is and what it looks like. So they whole controversy is lame.

Here in the U.S. it's Adults Only (NC-17). Plus, the grade is given so that those who are younger (and their parents) will know the content .

Hilliary Clinton is a moron and who cares if this game promotes sex without saying so?

Yo She Bi*ch, lets go.
Give me a break dudes, common, by the age of 9 you know what sex is, and it's up to your parents to give you and understanding of sex. As long as 12 year olds know sex in and out we won't have to worry about these things. Don't even tell me that these games drive younglings to have sex, it's the hormones dammit!

This only concerns weird parents that don't allow their kids to eat sugar.

Clinton best find a way to stop puberty if she wants kids the age of 15 to stop having sex!

The game originally had a mature rating. Any parent who was seriously concerned about the type of content could have read the back and saw sexual content. If they had such a problem don't let there kid buy it. Very idiotic for changing the rating if you ask me.

Don't really understand US rating system, but...why wasn't it 'NC17' anyway? In the UK GTA is rated 18 for sex and violence and always has been.

GTA in UK is 18, so it can pretty much have any **** in as it wants and can't be rated higher, i mean, porn is rated 18 so it's much the same. Anyway, the only people who are going to find the code probably are the ones who don't get any anyway, so where's the harm? Sex is legal at 16 here, and GTA being 18 means anyone legally playing it is legally allowed to be sexually active. It's a joke, it's like needing to be 18 to read porn, when you can get laid at 16. Pfff. They should leave the code and let it rest, what harm can come from it? Why noy ban adult channels and porn sites while they're at it?!?! Who seriously cares if you play out sex in a game where you can pick up hookers and kill them after paying for sex, or going on rampages shooting the fuzz.

I'm sure Rockstar will be fine, there was a similar fiasco with Manhunt being criticised for causing the murder of a young kid, but the kids were too young to play it anyway, that's assuming the game's even where the fault is. Ridiculous.

The fines are good, hopefully it will keep games how they should be and the good content for the right ages.

So shooting police officers, running over small children and massacreing old women is OK for a game to recieve a mature rating, but as soon as sex, the most natural of ALL human behaviours enters the equation, suddenly it get's taken off the shelves? Forgive me for finding this hard to understand...

You could not have said it better. This game can promote violance. Even then, you'd have to be pretty weak minded for any video game to effect you.

LOL!!! so true! The only thing this game promotes, is masturbation.

And it's a healthy stress relief. After a hard day of school/work where everybody is just a total *******, this game lets you take your aggressions out in a safe manner.

Well, I guess I don't endorse the kind of behavior these games simulate--I think Hillary Clinton has a point when she wants to investigate the mindless carnage and graphic sexuality in these games. But I also find it kind of ironic (and funny, in a twisted kind of way) that what is sparking this controversy is a 2 minute sequence of simulated sex rather than hour upon hour of graphic, gratuitous, gruesome carnage in video games! Is our society really that sick? That's kind of scary!

the whole GTA thing is just people getting upset over nothing. the only difference between an M rating and an AO rating is that the sex and violence is "prolonged" and "Intense". For some reason a bunch of people i didnt even vote for have decided to waste my tax dollars figuring out if a minigame feturing cleverly timed thrusts and a "pleasure" meter is so prolonged or intense that only the most mature gamers should have access to it. lord knows after the 20 plus hours of gang warfare, pimping, and doing hookers in the back seet of my stolen car i said thank god that was niether prolonged or intense.

bottom line more games should be rated AO and all this stigma is just the result of a scociety that likes to hear stories about pushing bounderies and yet cleverly scurries back to it's designated area when authority cracks the whip

I guess you'd know better than me, since I don't waste my time playing these retarded video games anyway!
