Global Warming

there's a frog in my snake oil
Thought i'd add some bright notes to this bit of gloom-talking i did earlier...

Godyam, i say, godyam. (coz i worship yams, you see ).
Energy Efficiency
This long-term state approach, quoted in that article, looks promising...

In Berlin the city’s Energy Agency grants suppliers 10 or 15-year contracts to manage the energy needs of public buildings: the suppliers invest in improved efficiency, and in return receive 70-90 per cent of any savings made. The programme has delivered major financial and emissions savings.
That's a social solution that should suit both 'socialist' and 'capitalist' countries. But both state and individual approaches probably need to adopt more 'contentious' pricing approaches like these too...

At present [in the UK], the more energy that is used, the less consumers typically pay per unit, creating in effect an incentive to use more energy. In contrast, many parts of the world have experience of ‘lifeline tariffs’, providing a quota of cheap energy sufficient for basic needs, with the price rising thereafter.
Pricing norms like these, applied hand-in-hand with 'protectionist' pricing for energy-efficient products (or government grants for long-term projects), might overcome some of our over-consumption tendencies. (Altho, considering the economic role of consumption in countries like the US and UK, this is still a tricky path to tread...)

Plantlife methane production
Yay, i overreacted . The authors of the original report have pointed out that the methane release is comparatively small, and forests etc still absorb far more greenhouse gases than they release.

I do believe that global warming is real and it will create an international disaster if we do not do concrete actions to reduce the impact. This year, near my hometown has experienced the worst flooding of all time. It happens in several other areas as well. We also can see that the weather is becoming unpredictable.

I've been trying to encourage people in the company and friends to implement sustainability concept and reduce the impact of global warming for 2 years now. I even just started my own blog in this topic http://sustainability4future.blogspot.com.

global warming is the biggest problem we are currently facing up with and i think we to ourself should start good ways in order to help and contribute in fighting this greatest threat ever in the world...let us all join hand in saving our mother earth..i did experienced the impact in of this last year where our place was hit by the strongest typhoon we ever had..it was so sad that the toll death reached more than a thousand..it was like a nightmare for me seeing dead people in the streets that had been found to be drown in the flash flood...it was terrible....

I heard the winter in US is much less right now. On the other hand, we have the worst snow storm in China and Bagdad, Iraq, experienced first snow in 100 years. This is another evidence that our climate is definitely changing.
