Yes, but playing together can be fun, you just take turns. Especially if you are not playing for the first time and can share tips. I used to play with my brother back in the day, and more recently with a friend...we got on to the second disc (after several hours debate over whether Tifa or Aeris was better) before he stopped talking to me and we stopped playing
