I haven't watched a lot of new movies this year, kind of how I thought I wouldn't. Here's what I have watched:
The Wind Rises - 10 Amazing in every way. Excellent animation, great characters, perfect voice acting and enough good events and bad events to keep anyone interested. It may be about the guy who created the planes that attacked Pearl Harbor, but it's a lot more than that, and it manages to focus on planes without making anyone think to hard about that fact which could easily turn a lot of people off from it. All that it tried to accomplish it with the utmost of excellence.
Guardians of the Galaxy - 10 I liked it more the second time and that is the staple of a good film, when you enjoy it more knowing what's going to happen. Great characters, good story, excellent music that somehow managed to work with a futuristic setting.
X-men: Days of future past - 9 They need to stop making Logan the main character, it felt like the wolverine too often. When it didn't fell that way though, it was so excellent
The Lego Movie - 9 Absolutely hilarious movie with great animation, and a lot of memorable characters, great locations and a large amount of clever ideas I wasn't expecting.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 8.5 Good story that I really wanted to watch to see what happened but otherwise a typical marvel universe film with very good action

I guess that's really it so far. I'm pretty picky about what films I'll watch I guess.

1. Lego Movie

2. Grand Budapest Hotel

I talked about GBH in this thread.

http://www.movieforums.com/community...t=35519&page=8

I didn't find the film funny at all and the plot and characters were all over the place. Here are the two biggest problems I have with the movie that I remember from watching it about a month ago.

1. There's a scene where they threw Jeff Goldblum's cat out of the window. Because animal cruelty is funny! Well, it could have been funny if there was a cartoon sound effect, a Tom scream, or something like that but the way its executed I don't find it funny.
2. About half way through, Gustave escapes jail and meets up with Zero. Gustave asks Zero for fake nose/glasses sets. Zero says he didn't bring them. Gustave then precedes to yell at Zero and Zero gives us his tragic backstory and Gustave apologizes BECAUSE of the backstory.

I have several problems with this scene.
One-Why didn't Zero tell Gustave this story earlier? They knew each other for several months so why didn't told him about it? One can argue that Zero didn't want to talk about in the first place but I don't think most people do this after one yells at them.
Two-Gustave apologizes to Zero not because of what he said but because of Zero's backstory. I might have missed something but that's what it sounded like. He apologized to him because of his backstory. If Zero never had a tragic backstory, Gustave might have not regretted what he said. I don't think this is a character I like.
Three-COPS ARE GOING TO CAPTURE THEM! Why are they just standing there talking? They do this another time in the film I think too WHERE THERE ARE SNIPERS NEARBY!
Four-Gustave asks Zero for fake nose/glasses things at the beginning of the conversation. To improve this scene, here's what I'd do to make it funnier.

Gustave-Zero can I have those fake nose/glasses things you brought with us?
Zero-Sorry but I couldn't find them.
Gustave-How can we escape without fake nose/glasses things?
Zero-I'm sorry. All I could find were these red clown noses.
Gustave-Ugh! These will have to do. Thanks anyway Zero
Zero-No Problem.
They leave.
