Rate The Last Movie You Saw

I saw Bamboo bollywood movie and the rate of this movie is 5.1/10

Haven't seen it for a few years and it's not as bad as I remembered it to be. 7/10

Husband and Wives (1992)

This is the notorious Allen movie with the last appearance of Mia Farrow in any of his films (shortly after filming she found out he was sleeping with their adoptive daughter).
It is one of these Woody Allen classics where married couples start thinking about their lifes and because of that all kind of situations begin to unfold. Add some great humor with that and some clever dialogue and you have a great movie! It's also quite an experimental movie with its handheld camera and its abrupt cuts in the middle of scenes. It reminds me of Lars Von Trier's style of filming. It worked great here. Woody Allen stays one of my all time favorite film directors and writers!

Bullets Over Broadway (1994)

I just watched this and it's an INSTANT favorite of mine! Woody Allen, you are a genius! What an awesome movie!
The picture exposes some really dark ideas and situations (life vs art) while it also contains some of the funniest scenes I've seen in my life ("Don't Speak!")!
I think it's now my second favorite Woody Allen movie after Crimes and Misdemeanors, but it may rise above it in the future. It's the third film of Allen I'm giving a 10/10 and I've seen 15 of his films. I didn't dislike one of them as yet.

Kumare (2011) - 8.5/10

Sort of a documentary version of The Guru (2002).

Vikram Gandhi, a filmmaker from New Jersey, takes on the guise of a guru to prove that gurus are false prophets, moves to Arizona and quickly gains a band of followers.

Paradoxically, his charade leads to insight, not just for his disciples, but for himself - and for the viewer of this documentary.

Humorous, honest and moving.

3/10

I came across a reference to this film by chance and it sounded interesting. A satire of the US military whose release was delayed because it coincided with 9-11.

Set in 1989, in that brief window of time at the end of the Cold War when US demilitarization was a real possibility, I was intrigued.

There was little funny about it. There was no way for the good cast to transcend the lame script. And it was completely predictable.

"Argo."

Did you expect "Argo" to be anything less than a precise and, for the most part, exhaustive recount of the Iranian hostage crisis? I didn’t.

Of course, that was the context - but I knew going into the movie, from the trailers, that it was more specifically about the CIA concocting a fictitious movie production in order to save a few hostages who had temporarily got away.

So 'an exhaustive recount of the hostage crisis' wasn't among my expectations, and fortunately that's not what I saw on screen.

Rushmore (1998)

Bill Murray is great and the main character is also funny as hell. It has a different style than other comedies and yet has so many familiar things in it. It's hard to describe what makes Anderson's comedies so good, but it just seems to work.
It's only the second film I've seen from Wes Anderson and although I didn't like this one as much as The Royal Tenenbaums, it is fair to say that I like his style of filmmaking. He is yet another interesting director I will be able to explore with much pleasure and curiosity. I'm looking forward to it!

Hard Eight (1996)
(Sydney)

This is Paul Thomas Anderson's first feature film and just like all of his other movies it is awesome!
I'm not going to give away the whole plot, but basically it's about a past badguy who tries to deal with the mistakes he made in his own particular way. It's also a story about characters, the relationships between them and how they behave in several unusual situations.
The story unfolds against the background of casinos, bars and motels in a very stylish and interesting way. It's really my kind of movie as I'm a big fan of these type of locations, certainly when it's used by such an amazing director as PTA.
It is yet another candidate for my top 25 list of the 90s (although it will be hard, because there are many contenders).
