Greatest opening few scenes of a film

Two come to mind immediately:

Fight Club, like JRS said. Fantastic Sequence. Fincher on a role! Great movie, by the way!

And...

Resevoir Dogs. The "Like a virgin"-sequence is utterly brilliant!

They had temporarily escaped the factories, the warehouses, the slaughterhouses, the car washes - they'd be back in captivity the next day but
now they were out - they were wild with freedom. They weren't thinking about the slavery of poverty. Or the slavery of welfare and food stamps. The rest of us would be all right until the poor learned how to make atom bombs in their basements.

You see ordinary people living in any ordinary city. Life seems happy. There's traffic in the highway like always. Next thing you know, a nuclear explosion has destroyed everything. Every living thing has been destroyed. The traffic is still traffic. But traffic that will never move again.

Blade Runner - The cityscape (no computers used here folks) with the reflection of flame on the eyeball.

Raiders of the Lost Ark - Just fell in love with this film again after getting the DVD set.

Contact - Following the radio waves out into space and beyond. Subtle and Wonderful. Small moves Ellie.

Blue Velvet - Small town America uncovered at last.

Saving Private Ryan - A thousand shades of death.

I love the dance sequence at the beginning of Mulholland Drive.

I definitely like the X2 opening. IMO best action sequence of 2003. (sorry Matrix, not even close).

X2 is one of the greatest alright. I'm watching Narc right now, and it has an intense opening segment. Wow.

one of the most RECENT memorable beginnings I would have to say would be American Beauty. Less then five minutes into the movie you see kevin spacy jerking off in the shower.

I really like the opening sequence to swordfish.

Hi im new here. My favourate start to a film is in Goodfella's.

And I say, 'I'm dead,' and I move.
The Crow has a realy good opening sequence, and it like my favorate film ever

One of my favorite openings is in Get Shorty in the part where Travolta goes to get his coat back, and just smoothly and calmly knocks on the door, punches Dennis Farina in the nose, grabs the coat, and walks out. Great part.

The opening battle of Glory is awesome.

Also, in Ice Age the Scrat part was very fun.

Last one, in L.A. Confidential, Danny DeVito's voice over is great.
