This actually looks like it could be good - I like the idea of making films based off of Christian/Jewish mythology which aren't "Christian films" - aka films which are made for proselytizing
Noah (2014)
Probably not, that was torture porn endorsed by every church in america, Noah will be a movie.
If they'd made a full-length movie based on the Biblical stories of Jesus (starting with his birth all the way until his death) then it might've been better, instead of a film which was mainly just torture scenes.
Russell Crowe's new film Noah has been slammed by critics and religious circles, including criticism from Muslim groups...
The film has also been banned in several Islamic Countries through accusations of blasphemy in some scenes toward the Prophet Mohammed.
The film has been called cringe-worthy, blasphemous and makes a mockery of Christian Beliefs and mocks the Bible.
The character of Noah has also been twisted into a tree-hugging hippy type who has been written as a kind of "vegan animal-rights activist" who is more interested in brawling with poachers who have trespassed on his land.
The overall story has also been labelled as a cheap story designed to prod at the current paranoia about Global Warming.
Paramount's defence was "we took artistic liberties"... though for some reason, the film wasn't pre-screened before general release, adding more fuel to the speculation that Paramount were genuinely worried about public and critical reaction.

…which has also been done numerous times.
Seems I was correct in my assumption. No interest in seeing this movie.
Yeah but things like Beowulf were written as fictions.
Beowulf was ultimately the original Superhero... a figment of imagination. Like Robin Hood.
Christian stories are written as truths. Absolutes. Noah, Jesus, Adam and Eve... they're a Christian's beliefs of absolute truth.
Taking the stories, whether Jesus, Noah or whoever and twisting it around for an entertaining night out with some popcorn is, in the eyes of a Christian, Sacrilege.

If you were expecting it to be a "Christian film" or present the flood story as literal truth then that's the problem.

If you want to mess around with things people think are sacred, it's a free country. But you can't browbeat them into liking it.

The Last Temptation of Christ works fine as such, that's why I like it so much, but it can also be equally appreciated by believers and non-believers alike.

I don't know why you stupid Christians can't just get on board with the altering of your sacred texts for mass consumption. Just let us put a couple of ninjas in there. It's worth it. FRESH TAKE.

I think the strongest Christ film I've seen is Mel Gibson's Passion Of...
Many hated it, but really they took the Bible stories and looked into actual history and combined the two.
Basically, if Jesus was real, and he really did suffer "that" torture and punishment, then Passion is what would have happened.
That film showed reality.
Many people hated the film, but mainly through the fact that it wasn't the child friendly Baby Jesus who is all nice and lovely and calm when he's Crucified... which is the vision of Jesus that many have been brought up with.
Passion showed the historic reality of the snot and gore he would have suffered when being beaten and Crucified.
I'm not Christian, but I will defend any religion that has been upset by some Hollywood popcorn seller simply because they want to get some fast cash.
Noah, it seems, is exactly that.
A popcorn seller with little regard to the people they obviously knew it would piss off. I say they knew, because they didn't even screen the film before release.
Says it all really.

Noah... just looks like Evan Almighty if done by Roland Emmerich.

Uh, no man, be him born of god or otherwise, has that much blood in him. Reality was not with that movie.

As for movies of Faith, I love the classic epics like Ben-Hur (not scripture but set in that time), The Ten Commandments and the like. Both were big blockbusters and did not have to change the story to be big hits.

Ok, I'll give you that. Passion was overly gory in terms of blood loss from one man. But the rest was solid.

Have any critics or the like even seen this yet? Im somewhat hesitant as I am always am when talking about sacred text being given the pop culture treatment. However I certainly didn't see anything in the trailers that would make me think the film will be sacrilegious. It is pretty tough to flesh out these biblical stories without ticking someone off. The stories themselves are usually pretty short and straightforward. To make them feature length you have to give the characters more texture, which is hard to do without upsetting people's notions of who these characters are.
Rodent do you have any links you can share from the post you made about the groups who are decrying the film. I would love to read up on it a bit.

I just Googled Noah (2014)
Last week there were a few sites on the first Google results page that were hammering it.
