KELLY’S HEROES 1970 Brian G. Hutton + (75/100)

A nice blend of Sci-Fi and Horror. An original approach to the Vampire origin story that claims Vampire’s are extraterrestrial life forms. The film is in a unique space between B-film/cult classic and big budget/blockbuster. The film shows qualities and characteristics for both these types of film. In my opinion if you watch it with the expectation of a big budget B-film or VHS rental classic, then your expectations will be met with satisfaction.

From scenes that really drag with slow 50’s soapy drama to strong apocalyptic thought-provoking scenes. A stand out dramatic performance by Fred Astaire, the dancer actually out acted both Gardner and Perkins imo. A real mixed bag for me but the story by itself was compelling enough to keep me engaged till the end.

The main storyline is simple but effective; kick a5s, save the children, save the animals..Word! The flashbacks we're well done, pretty intense and suspenseful. Excellent close quarters fight choreography near the end! And as expected they came with another very enjoyable Awesome Mixtape.

At first glance a simple revenge story but what sets The Bravados apart from other Westerns of that time. It reflects on the internal moral struggle of a man who by circumstance is forced into the way of the gun and the laws of the land which conflict with his own religious morals and values. Beautiful film in magnificent CinemaScope and I hope ‘58 Joan Collins visits me in my dreams tonight.

It was all good for 93% of the movie, a nice mix of humor and suspense. Smooth performance by James Mason. Then it somehow turned into a nonsensical goofy Cannonball Run flick. Probably won't break into my top hundred all time Heist films list.
