5 Movies You Would Watch Over and Over Again

Tools

1.Shanghai Kiss
2. Transformers 1
3. Transformers 2
4. Get Smart Bruce and Lloyd out of control.
5. Harold and Kumar

For the most part I don't watch movies twice -- too much I haven't watched once. But ... the movies I will watch over and over with my wife, son and nieces aren't always my "all time favorites." They're just sure things -- movies that cheer us up or that we know are going to give us a good time.

1. Sense and Sensibility (Ang Lee version)
2. Deep Impact
3. Serenity
4. Sleepless in Seattle
5. Waking Ned Devine

Of course this doesn't count the traditional holiday fare (Wizard of Oz, It's a Wonderful Life, Christmas Story, and the assorted Christmas Carol versions).

Movies I'd watch again by myself:

1. Time Bandits
2. Bladerunner
3. Alien
4. Aliens
5. The Terminator

In the Beginning...

I don't know what it is, but I love Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Not that this is even a surprise, since the film was a critical success. But for a film that isn't in my Top 10, I would flat out watch this every week if I could. Maybe it's the character comaraderie or the phenomenal production value and pacing... I don't know. It all just clicks into place.

The Thing is another one of those films that goes without saying. Of course it's incredible, but the fact that I don't usually do horror makes this unusual. I just love that raw, secluded feeling, and the paranoia aspect of your buddies being potential monstroids makes it all such an incredibly atmospheric experience. Perfect flick for when you've got the house to yourself.

I really don't know why Zack and Miri Make a Porno resonates so well with me. I'm not the biggest follower of Kevin Smith and I'm usually only modestly satisfied with the Judd Apatow School of Filmmaking. But this one's got so much good feeling and energy, and the relationship between the two main characters is awesome. And I'm in love with Elizabeth Banks.

I tend to watch Solaris a lot at night, when I'm chilling out and getting ready for bed. It's got that ambient quality that sets up perfectly the mystery and serenity of space, with not a lot of jarring sounds being allowed to poke through. The shots are deliberate and systematic, which is surprisingly nice. And the soundtrack is absolutely mesmerizing.

I think The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is now the absolute quintessential fantasy film. I grew up on Harryhausen and Excalibur and Willow, but this film has that believable, salt-of-the-earth, rooted-in-nature quality that puts it in a class all its own. The richness of New Zealand makes this an astoundingly beautiful film, much more so than the subsequent sequels, which aren't able to retain the first film's classic book-worn feel.

A system of cells interlinked
I would watch all the films you listed over and over, Sleezy. Zack and Miri is my favorite Rogen flick so far, and I still haven't seen half the damn film due to being bent in half laughing during some scenes. Master and Commander is also a great film I watch frequently, due in no small part to the sound production and the excellent score. You all KNOW I love The Thing...and i have also been a big supporter of Solaris since I first saw it a few years ago. Yes - Fellowship is the best damn fantasy picture ever, as well.

Aren't you leaving out your fave, Sleepless in Seattle?

"Although I cried at the end of The Dirty Dozen."
"Who didn't?"
"Jim Brown was throwing these hand grenades down these airshafts. And Richard Jaeckel and Lee Marvin... "
[Begins to cry]
"... were sitting on top of this armored personnel carrier, dressed up like Nazis... "
[Crying too] "Stop, stop!"
"And Trini Lopez... "
"Yes, Trini Lopez!"
"He busted his neck while they were parachuting down behind the Nazi lines... "
"Stop."
"And Richard Jaeckel... at the beginning he had on this shiny helmet... "
[Crying harder] "Please no more. Oh God! I loved that movie."
