Spider-Man: Homecoming

Welcome to the human race...
Not a fan of the MCU, as I've said a few times already, and finally seeing the trailer for this rerererereboot of Spider-Man I'm not hyped at all.
I like Raimi's first two, and loved the Amazing movies. Gutted they didn't carry on with that series.
I very much doubt there'll be any bravery in this reboot, like killing Gwen or having any sort of death at all tbh. It looks very colourful and kid friendly to me.

Just another MCU movie.
Fridging Gwen is bravery now?

It is when compared to the other movies.
None of them were brave enough to actually kill off a major protagonist. Amazing killed off both Gwen and her Dad.

Raimi's killed off a few bad guys... and the rest of the MCU have threatened to kill off good guys, but there's always been a miraculous reversal of the situation.
Pepper Potts in Iron Man 3 had a miraculous cure for her DNA being messed with, for instance... or Bucky Barnes being resurrected... Loki, a kind of anti-hero, died then came back.
Nick Fury? Faked his death... ta-daa! Everything's fine after all!!

The Marvel movies under Sony, at least have an element of tragedy about them. The MCU itself is like watching the movie versions of Narnia... something tragic raises its head, but is miraculously reversed within 15 seconds.
Or watching a movie like Taken, or Olympus Has Fallen, or something Seagal would make... the hero gets something done to them which annoys them a bit, and they then goes on a relentless march of victory, bookended by hero shots and trailer moments.

Hell, even Guardians Of The Galaxy, (which I actually like and am gutted is tied to the MCU), had Groot resurrected.

On the other hand, Rachel Dawes.

I'll have to concede Pepper for now because I don't remember IM3 all that well. When you say Bucky, do you mean when he's brought back as the Winter Soldier, a brainwashed abomination whose return ends up causing massive problems for the heroes instead of being a simple "everything will be OK" development? Also, Loki (who never actually becomes any kind of anti-hero, merely a villain that is forced to help Thor out in Dark World) is a duplicitous trickster who specialises in playing long cons so him faking his death (and disguising himself as Odin) as part of a greater scheme makes more sense. The same arguably applies to Nick Fury, whose faked death makes sense when S.H.I.E.L.D. is compromised and he is effectively forced to operate in secret as a result.

The issue isn't so much that characters don't die so much as whether or not their deaths would actually mean anything for the story. If the main characters' deaths are effectively ruled out by the trappings of the franchise, then the stakes have to be provided in other ways. Civil War did this by making it so that the conflict stemmed not from a generic destroy-the-world plot but by having it be about personal tensions escalating past the point of no return. There's more to take away from certain characters' survival/returning than just "nobody stays dead so who cares what happens to anyone". Meanwhile, Gwen Stacy's death in TASM2 isn't that significant in its own right - all it does is make Peter sad and remind him of his own shortcomings as a hero and a person. Why else do you think I used the word "fridging"? Just because it's something that doesn't happen in other movies of its ilk doesn't automatically mean that it will be handled deftly or creatively.

lol, you don't need to tell me twice

What, like RoboCop?

Does RoboCop do that though?
In the remake he does, and in RoboCop 3, sure. But the original he doesn't really go on a never-ending knife-through-butter charge, winning at every turn until he reaches the finale.

I dunno, the MCU to me just feels like a watered down, made-to-put-arses-on-seats, colourful cartoon for kids.

Guardians is the best of the lot and really, really, really shouldn't have been tied to the series imho.

Welcome to the human race...
Meanwhile, quite a few of these Fox/Sony superhero movies feel like drab rehashes where the producers seem more interested in holding onto copyrights for a few more years more so than making a great movie (which plagued both TASM movies to an extent but got taken to a serious extreme with Fant4stic).

Exceptional.

Now THAT is how a trailer is presented! See how it's done, Warner Brothers.

Boldly going.
I liked the trailer.

I had some concerns about how they'd make The Vulture look cool, but I think he looks amazing in it.

I like that they're addressing how Spider Man fits in the larger MU.

The more clips that I see the more I smile. They may have found a refreshing balance here.

I'm SO glad they are officially on record saying Zendaya isn't MJ. As long as they don't crap on the REAL source material I'll be happy. (I don't care about Ultimate Universe garbage)

Tobey has some of the weirdest facial expressions. I was never quite sure how he became a big actor. It's like his face is disconnected from his performances lol.

Well, this is awkward......

This brings back memories of a thread that went on for years (on another site)... all over the scene where Peter stops the train in Spider-Man II. Before resorting to webs, he first puts his leg out in front of the speeding train, breaking untold number of railroad ties.

My contention was that they went way beyond Spidey's known powers with that scene and that he was displaying Superman-level invulnerability... that, even with proportionate spider-strength, his femur and lower leg bones would have been instantly obliterated and his pelvis would have snapped in half. Put a human-sized spider on the front of a speeding train then stick it's legs between the train and the tracks - that spider's going to end up with no legs and dead (unless it's a giant spider from Krypton).
