Are you high or something?

I addition to Brazil, Back to the Future and RAN there's After Hours, Witness, Lost in America, To Live & Die in L.A., Prizzi's Honor, The Falcon & the Snowman, Shoa, The Sure Thing, Fright Night, Fletch, Clue and The Breakfast Club.

After Hours - I forgot about this, great movie

Witness - Overly predictable plot and too many unresolved subplots. Really overrated

Lost in America - It's okay, but it's also one of Brook's weakest efforts

To Live & Die in LA - Decent, but William L. Peterson's acting is just horrible.

Prizzi's Honor - I actually like this one too, nice performance from Anjelica Huston

The Falcon & The Snowman - Hated this

Shoah - Never seen it

The Sure Thing - Sweet, but nothing really special

Fletch - This flick flat-out irritates me. Never been a real big Chase fan

Fright Night - Forgetable vampire fluff

Clue - Enjoyable, but not one of my favorites

The Breakfast Club - I like it, but Landis' & Hughes' movies can't be as effective now as they were in the 80's

Overall, I just think it's a lackluster year in films, compared to most others. I mean, Out of Africa won the flippin' Oscar for Christ's sake.

Before I feel fully confident in answering this correctly I still need to see: Young Guns, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Beetlejuice, Eight Men Out, The Last Temptation of the Christ, Midnight Run and A Fish Called Wanda

Trust me, you do not need to see Young Guns.

Ok I'll take your word for it but I still need to see the others.

I am having a nervous breakdance
I just realized that I've been thinking that John McClane and Lance McCool were the same guy until today.

They had temporarily escaped the factories, the warehouses, the slaughterhouses, the car washes - they'd be back in captivity the next day but
now they were out - they were wild with freedom. They weren't thinking about the slavery of poverty. Or the slavery of welfare and food stamps. The rest of us would be all right until the poor learned how to make atom bombs in their basements.

1980:

Don't Play With Fire aka Dangerous Encounters: 1st Kind. Crappy title, great movie, sort of a precursor to Dao and Time and Tide. Hard to find but worth tracking down.

My current list goes something like this:

1 Don't Play With Fire
2 Spooky Encounters
3 Toward the Terra
4 Atlantic City
5 Return of the Secaucus 7
6 Popeye
7 Raging Bull
8 Kagemusha
9 Big Red One
10 Young Master

Altered States; Atlantic City; Big Red One; Dangerous Encounters; Empire Strikes Back; Kagemusha; Popeye; Raging Bull; Return of the Secaucus 7; Return to the 36 Chambers; Shining; Spooky Encounters; Toward the Terra; We’re Going to Eat You; Young Master;

Edit: man gummo, 1979 may be my favorite year for cinema: Vengeance is Mine, The Muppet Movie, Tale of Tales, The Tin Drum, Woyzeck, The Jerk, Magnificent Butcher, and Hardcore. Those first three alone are contenders for best movie ever in my book.
