Things that annoy you...

I don't know what is more pathetic and meaningless, fake trailers that have spliced together films that already exist or the people that make these things, how bored do you need to possibly be!

I don't watch those, but on youtube that means money for the person's channel.

Her music is not my taste, but she seems like a nice lady.

UK government apparently going to give advice on how schools can ban students using phones in school... what's happened to schools?

When I was at school and someone got their phone out in class and the teacher noticed, we would get told off and told to put it away or the teacher removed it...

Or an overreaction from the government and students don't actually use their phones during class time that much? Apparently some schools have already banned phone use.

How about this idea Congress has been kicking around of banning social media from minors (whether via phone, lap top, desk top, at home, at school or anywhere)?

It's well beyond the guessing phase that Internet social media is highly addictive, alters brain function (especially in the young), destroys & prevents the development of healthy social skills and has directly resulted in an epidemic of mental illness, suicides, kidnappings and murders of children. The studies for all these things are now conclusive. Just like you wouldn't let kids smoke or use mind-altering drugs, why would we let children engage in an addictive & destructive habit that results in the destruction of their intellect and even their very selves?

If I understand the proposal directly, using the internet will be like attending R-rated movies - no one under a certain age could use it without a parent or legal guardian present.

A couple decades back, I would've opposed the idea, but with what we know now (like comparing what we knew about cigarettes in the early 20th century compared to what we knew about them at the end of the century) it seems like the responsible thing to do.

What say you?

Where did you hear that at Captain? Are you sure the second paragraph was what was being proposed by Congress? I could see a bill being introduced to limit minors access to social media. But no way could I see the entire internet being off limits to those under 18.

Not sure where I first heard about it, but there have been some discussions about it in Congress.

I may have mis-phrased what I heard in my wording... I don't think the goal is to restrict the entire Internet from minors, but rather to not allow minors to join certain social media sites until they are of a certain age.

I tried to find a quick video on the subject and am posting one of the first that came up.

At some point I heard some Congresspeople propose greater restrictions such as making social media similar to other things on the Net - where you have to prove you're an adult to access the site.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks. And yes I'd be in favor of that....But it will never happen. The social media sites are way too big, make way too much money and have way too much clout with alot of pull with Congress. X former Twitter, probably welds more pull than a 1/3 of the countries on the planet.

Bravo!

Pornography is a huge problem online. And I’ve only glimpsed a tiny bit. Middle schoolers are watching this stuff & it greatly affects how they perceive women. Madness

You ready? You look ready.
Never made much sense to me: social media companies raking in millions off the backs of kids that have zero spending power. That, in and of itself, is an impressive feat.

I believe Cornhub is banned in Utah. The Mormans are very anticornography. So things like this can be done. But I imagine your just use a VPN to access whatever you want.

The trick is not minding

Sorry, I am writing in Facebook lingo. I'm used to be punished for using adult language to discuss adult topics.
