March 1 - Shutter Island

March 2 - Hellraiser
March 2 - Boogie Nights

March 4 - The Gift (the Joel Edgerton one)
March 4 - Bridesmaids
March 4 - Amélie

March 5 - Wrongfully Accused
March 5 - The Garbage Pail Kids Movie
March 5 - Olympus Has Fallen
March 5 - Letters From Iwo Jima

March 6 - Calvary
March 6 - Clue

I've watched some damn good movies this past week, with Amélie being the absolute highlight. Haven't been able to stop thinking about Amélie since I watched it. And please, don't judge me for The Garbage Pail Kid Movie... I hadn't seen it since I was a kid. I wish I had kept it that way.

City Of God was so good. So sad, but so good. The scene where the little kids had to choose between the hand or the foot, and the outcome of that scene was pretty gut wrenching. That, and Li'l Dice running through the motel, shooting innocents, enjoying every moment of it.

Boogie Nights was pretty damn great, too. That long shot of William H. Macy's character during the New Years party was awesome. That drug deal scene was wonderfully intense. And the scene in the bakery, with Buck, was dripping with ominous vibes, that when it all finally blew up, I was very satisfied. Is it weird that I was so happy to see Dirk's dick? All that talk about it, and it really was worth it.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
It would have made a pretty intense 90 minute film if they cut out most of the first hour. As it is, it's still an accomplishment, but I have a hard time giving it a straight-up rec.

As far as Day of the Outlaw goes, it basically leaves me cold (literally and figuratively) and bored. Burl Ives and Robert Ryan need to break out in song to macho it up.
