I am still just baffled at what makes up an "award winning" film I guess. All this love for The Hangover is just infuriating, but, whatever.

Anyway, the Golden Globes will be on the 17th.

I am burdened with glorious purpose
So, who is watching tonight?

What movies are you rooting for?

Actors? Actresses?

What movie is missing?

And does anyone else think the title of the movie "Precious......" is just about the craziest title you've ever seen? That has to be result of some pretty strong arm twisting on the part of the author....

I've only seen a handful of those movies (Precious, Inglourious Basterds, Up, Julie & Julia, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and Coraline), so I may just skip it. Glad to see nominations for Jeff Bridges and Colin Firth, though, as I really want to see their respective movies.

I once wrote a post on Crazy Heart and how everyone should should keep an eye out for Jeff Bridges earning so many awards for this movie.

Well, here we are!

I'm rooting for Jeff Bridges for Best Actor in a Drama, of course, as well as Christoph Waltz (Best Supporting Actor), Quentin Tarantino (Best Screenplay), Inglorious Basterds (Best Picture), Mo'Nique for Best Supporting Actress, and Quentin Tarantino for Best Director. However, I would be happy to see James Cameron win it for Best Picture and Director for Avatar.

Everyone else is negotiable!

I don't really care about it or any of the nominees. However, I'll be interested to see if Kathryn Bigelow wins this, I think there's a lot of good feeling for The Hurt Locker. Also, if she does win, I hope the camera gets in tight on Cameron's face.

28 days...6 hours...42 minutes...12 seconds
Cameron won for Directing. I could see it, he did change the way people will make films. If I were to give it to anyone else though, it'd be Kathryn Bigelow.

Well, I guess my hopes came true. Jeff Bridges, Mo'Nique, Tarantino, Waltz, and Cameron won awards. I'm also happy for Sandra Bullock. She's finally earned acting awards. Also, I'm glad Robert Downey Jr got an award. I'm pretty sure that the same names (Jeff, Quentin, Mo'Nique, Christoph, Sandra, and James) will end up winning the Oscars.

I was none too thrilled about Avatar's wins either. I haven't watched the movie, but nothing I've seen or read about it has given me any desire at all to watch it. I doubt I'll even bother to Netflix it once it's on DVD.

Avatar is another wonderful masterpiece, James Cameron deserves the award.

will.15's Avatar
Semper Fooey
Was Ricky Gervais funny? NBC needs a successor for Leno. I was watching 24 (good opening).

That was my understanding, Mojo said otherwise.
I thought Tarantino won for Best Screenplay. It turned out Up In The Air won it instead.

Sorry for the wrong info!

I am burdened with glorious purpose
Was Ricky Gervais funny? NBC needs a successor for Leno. I was watching 24 (good opening).
I thought so, but then again, I LOVE Ricky Gervais. I was laughing pretty hard.

I was happy to see Sandra get an award, Downey Jr (have loved him since he played Chaplin), and of course, Jeff Bridges. Seems Jeff will finally get his Oscar.

I haven't seen Avatar, but I was pretty surprised The Hurt Locker didn't win. Reminds me of the Titanic year when LA Confidential was the critics' darling and Titanic walked away with everything. But I get the feeling that Cameron is not loved in the industry. The crowd seemed so lukewarm to him.

Favorite moment? Ricky Gervais having a beer onstage and saying that he "drinks like any man... unless you're Mel Gibson" (or something like that.) LOL! I wondered how the crowd would greet Mel. All seemed okay, actually.

And Sandra looked amazing in that purple dress.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE: DRAMA
Jeff Bridges: Crazy Heart

Nominees:
George Clooney: Up in the Air
Colin Firth: A Single Man
Morgan Freeman: Invictus
Tobey Maguire: Brothers
I watched the entire show - didn't miss a second (which is unusual for me) - and I think it was just because I was hoping to witness Tobey Maguire win this award...

and he didn't.....

Instead, that shaggy, gruff old redneck man named Jeff Bridges got up and snatched away what was supposed to be Tobey's globe!

They showed Tobey after the announcement and he looked pretty pissed off. Poor thing. Hopefully this will just make him stronger and fight harder for an award -- we must see more and more of him. We must!
