The 'Flushed with success' Song Tournament

Tools

FLUSHED WITH SUCCESS

The boring stuff
Every song nominated must have reached either number one or number two on the main music chart of at least one country (any country in the world) - please note proof in English may be requested if it is not easily verifiable. Yes, you read that right - it's a song tournament that will consist solely of number ones and number twos!

All genres of music are eligible and nominations may be made from any time period in which music charts for that country existed. Winners and runners-up of previous Song Tournaments are however not eligible.

A link that does not require sign-up or subscription must be provided to each song (for instance YouTube).

Voters must listen to both songs in each match prior to voting.

It is expected each participant will have at least 8 nominations and perhaps more depending on levels of interest. The song tournament will be of regular size (128 nominations) and therefore limited to a maximum of 16 participants on a first come first served basis. In the event of less than 16 people wishing to participate extra nominations will be handed out to those that have registered in order to bring the total nominations up to 128.

This tournament will begin after the British Song Tournament finishes.

So it has to be like the Billboard number 1 or 2 from their across the board chart, not the more specialist Billboard Country Music, Hip Hop etc charts?

Yep for countries like America that have several sub-charts as well as the primary chart that is exactly it

Here's another site that some might find useful for this tournament.

I'll only be asking for verification (in English) for those nominations where I don't already know the resources myself (generally UK, US and Ireland) or am unable to find verification of eligibility via a quick websearch so people can include charts from whatever country they like as long as such verification can be provided

Master of My Domain
I'm in. Because, as it is for most tournaments, why the hell not.

this is a decent guide too http://www.lanet.lv/misc/charts/

Probably give up on African music as most countries don't have official charts or any kind of charts as far as I can see. All except Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa who do have them.

Blimey cricket, super fast work there. Won't be starting this until the Brit one is over so still plenty of time to jiggle with your noms (or not) should you so desire

It's not a bad idea, but MoJo was gonna do Song Tournament 15 and I'd rather do that.

I'm in!

However, there's an Old Fogey Tournament in the works, and I believe it will come right after the Brit one is over. You might want to hold off on this.

My Song Tournament #15 can wait. I'm in no rush to get back to hosting just yet.

I'll edit my list into this post...

Elvis Presley - Don't Be Cruel (1956, US #1)
The Beatles - I Feel Fine (1964, US and UK #1)
Frankie Valli - Grease (1978, US #1)
Michael Jackson - Beat It (1983, US #1)
George Michael - Father Figure (1987, US #1)
Coolio & L.V. - Gangsta's Paradise (1995, US and UK #1)
Maroon 5 - Makes Me Wonder (2007, US #1)
Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth - See You Again (2015, US and UK #1)

It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!” ~ Rocky Balboa

The Old Fogey Song Tournament was pushed back one tournament due to personal issues I have going on right now. I posted in the other thread that someone could jump in with another tournament in the interim, and the Old Fogey Tournament would be after this one.

Here's the link to my post:

Anyone got a link for the previous songs that have won tournaments?
I put a link to it in the opening post - 2nd paragraph
