Goodfellas 1990
Paulie may have moved slow, but it was only because Paulie didn't have to move for anybody.
Alright, so here's the thing with this movie, I have avoided watching it for YEARS. Not because I didn't want to watch it, the opposite actually, I knew I would just adore this gem, but I knew after this 2 hours I would want to watch
Casino, and
The Godfather, and
The Godfather II, maybe I'd even re-watch
Scarface if I'm still feelin' frisky and it'd just be a huge investment of my time. I personally think this is Scorsese's best, and most would say
Taxi Driver is, to which I wouldn't argue.
Taxi Driver is a perfectly made movie, but it doesn't have the rewatchability of Goodfellas for me, personally.
Ray Liotta gives the best performance of his career, as expected, and
Robert De Niro does a pretty damn good paranoid Tony Montana impression. I thought De Niro was the real standout, even more-so than
Pesci who fans of this always like to rave about(
Funny how?), who I thought was good not great character-wise. This movie has a perfect cast, and I was invested since very first scene, and it never wavered, you could probably throw another hour onto this and I'd still love it just as much.
I gotta say though, Liotta does a pretty damn goofy lookin' face when he starts laughing. Just look at that thing.
