Slasher Hall of Fame

I'll go back and read what people have said about Jeepers Creepers after this. However, the first thing which came to mind, even before this finished was, this is not a slasher film. There's stalking, but that's about it. This is The Terminator and, if that's a slasher film then so be it, but if someone had nominated The Terminator I think people would've pointed out that it's not a slasher film.

As for the film, it's OK. I had to watch it at my computer, which as I've said before isn't my preferred way of watching anything and I watched it during the day with the sun streaming in, so any atmosphere it might've created for me was lost. However, I don't think it was capable of making one. For one, the monster is far too clearly seen and too often, too. I'm sure whoever created and worked on that costume was delighted to see their hard work spend so much time onscreen, but it worked against it for me.

The rest of the film went pretty much as I'd expected considering what I'd heard about it. I didn't like the first 40 minutes or so as much as a lot of other people do, but then, I didn't hate the second half as much as many others do, either. I think it's a pretty average film and, while I'd watch it again, I have no desire to and I don't know if I'd make it to the end if I did take another look.

I think this is much more like another film I know that Derek really likes, Joy Ride. Sadly, that's not a slasher film, either.

The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)

When Michael Myers was 6 years old, he stabbed his sister to death. For years he was locked up in Smith's Grove Sanitarium, but he escaped. Paul Rudd is in this, he's Tommy Doyle- the little boy Laurie Strode babysitted in 1978. Tommy studies Michael Myers, and on a crazy scale of 1 to 10, he's a 13. Jamie has been raped by a cult but manages to escape with her new-born baby. But Michael's in hot pursuit. The Strode family has moved into the Myers' house, in an attempt to break the curse and to finally sell the house

Memorable Kill: The Jackazz dad bought the Myers house for cheap bc no-one else would buy it, he gets stabbed and electrocuted by Michael in the laundry room

The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)

Jamie Strode is in Haddonfield's Children's Hospital after attacking her step-mother the previous year. She is being treated by Dr. Loomis, and hasn't said a word since the attack.. but to her horror discovers that she has a mind-link to her murdering uncle, Michael who has spent the year recovering from his wounds in a coma and awakes to go after Jamie again. His plan is to lure Jamie out of the hospital by going after Tina, who is going to a Halloween party. Jamie knows that she must leave the hospital to save herself and with the aid of Dr. Loomis sets out to defeat Michael on his own home ground - The Myers house

The Return of Michael Myers (1988)

it's the 10 year anniversary of Michael Myers' first attack on Haddonfield. 'Where society dumps its worst nightmares.' Myers has been in a coma ever since his killing spree was stopped by Dr Loomis and Laurie Strode, and is being transferred from Ridgemont Federal Sanitarium to Smith's Grove. Michael awakens. Dr Loomis, burned face and all, is on the trail of his cursed ex-patient, the Father of modern horror

Favorite Halloween sequel. Liked Act 1 and Act 2 quite a bit. Pretty strong on atmosphere. 3rd act is full of tension, but i'm not sure what i think about the ending when Jamie pulls a Michael at the end. Like this more than Halloween II (1981) even tho the only time we see Laurie Strode in this one is in a photograph. it leans more on suspense and atmosphere than gore.

Memorable Kill: Kelly pinned to the wall via stabbing with the barrel of a shotgun. that can't be possible

Halloween II (1981)

we're back in Haddonfield on October 31st, 1978. picking up where we left off with Michael escaping Dr Loomis' grasp and wreaking havoc in the neighborhood. for those of us who love the original Halloween, there will be at least some level of curiosity as to where things go from there. at the same time, it feels like we're rehashing the same story too much

at first, the entire sheriff's department is in on the manhunt. later the US Marshall arrives to return Myers to Smith's Grove, the mental facility Michael escaped from in the original. Meanwhile Laurie's in the Haddonfield hospital and the staff is getting picked off one-by-one by the Shape. shoutout to Lance Guest playing Jimmy. he starred in the Last Starfighter (1984), he and Laurie got the hots for each other

there are a few things i like, and others i don't. it's got a Halloween-like atmosphere which is a plus, but don't like the twist with Laurie being Michael's long lost sis. too contrived. which John Carpenter admits when he wrote this sequel, boozed up on Budweiser, which he didn't really want to do. so he passed off the director's chair to Rick Rosenthal. it's not terribly exciting, but there is some decent suspense.

Halloween (1978)

orchestrated like a Hitchcock-film on cocaine. Delivers a thrill-packed experience set on every horror fan's favorite holiday. Plays like a legend of Halloween night set to Carpenter's striking music

Memorable Kill: Annie's entire death sequence, Annie's also my favorite character

Grade: Excellent

This is the film that really fired off this whole thing we're doing right now. At a later point in here i'll get into what is better, the launching point, or taking slashers to another level, as Craven has done several times. Personally don't think there is a right answer, necessarily, comes down to gut instinct

This was my second viewing of this movie. I thought it was decent the first time, and to my surprise, I enjoyed it more this time.

I agree with HK that this is not a slasher, but I won't hold that against the movie. I also kind of agree with HK about the monster. I thought that when it was shown up close from the front, that it kind of looked like an angry superhero. From other angles, or when the picture wasn't completely clear, I thought it looked pretty cool.

The one big negative for me was Justin Long. The character and the performance were fine, but I just found him annoying. Otherwise, I completely enjoyed this film from start to finish. I thought I remembered not liking the ending, but as it turns out, I absolutely loved the ending. I'm glad I watched it again because I now look at it in a different light.

The Justin Long thing is a problem I have with the film too, cricket. He spends the whole film looking like the love child of Keanu Reeves and David Schwimmer. It's not his fault obviously, but it kept distracting me.

So how is everybody looking? I am ready to set up a "due date" for votes. Where do we stand? How long do you think it will take each of you to finish up? There's no rush, but for the sake of hall of fames to follow this one I'd like to get a timetable set up.

I just have Happy Birthday to Me left, I can get to it whenever.

I still have 5 to watch.... I got 3 on dvd.. (bought Happy Birthday to Me used for $7.99)... need to finish "Halloween" or can I just give the films I have already seen in the past a rating? if so, then Im down to 2!

I think I will return the 3 dvds I bought for this.. I really dont want the dvds... if I get 50 cents each... well that tells me what they are worth.. lol

There's no rush at all, don't feel like you HAVE to watch these things by a certain time. I'd much rather people rewatch movies if they want to instead of just not doing it because of time.

With the watch list in the middle of june... I want to get this done...

it seems we will have 21 weeks of film with that ...

I just have Happy Birthday to Me and the DVD is in the mail, so I'll watch it this weekend.

In my description of a slasher: it's someone who kill with knife , axe or pick... The Creeper originaly kill people with an unique axe (image below) and in the sequel he also kill people with unique knife (image below) to improve his character so in my definition it's a slasher...

I have seen it twice already.. once at the theatre.. once on starz.. did not like it either time...

Unless I'm forgetting something, I have seen everything now. I just need to post my reviews. I had to double check on if something I was going to post for Jason X was allowed. It is!

OK, some of the reviews have been nothing more than the title, pictures, and ratings. Close to, anyway. I'm only mentioning that because of what I want to do for my next review. I am in no way trying to be disrespectful, or rude. I simply did not like this movie, and minus all the swearing this guy does, I agree with pretty much everything he says. So, with that being said, I will be posting two videos for my next review. Once again, I promise there is no disrespect intended.

I believe I've seen half of the movies so far. My exams are finished for this month so I'm going to see the rest in the next couple of days.

I just have Hatchet to watch and I'm done. I'll try and get it done this weekend.

Derek, I disagree completely, but no one stopped you having it as a nom so it's all good. Still not a slasher, though.
