American Horror Story.
Saw, Insidious from James Wan, and his two new horrible movies: The Nun Anna Belle 2 will come next year.

American Horror Story is a television series, not a film one. Though I am a big fan of it.

Can't remember if I mentioned The Thing before in this. It's eligible with the 1951 original, the 1982 remake and 2011 prequel. John Carpenter's 1982 remake is definitely the best and one of my favorite films of any genre, Horror or otherwise. My personal favorite of Carpenter's filmography as well, which is no small feat given his lengthly and mostly excellent body of work.

Also interesting to note Carpenter considers it part of his "Apocalypse Trilogy," which also includes Prince Of Darkness and In The Mouth Of Madness. In any event, The Thing is easily my favorite of these three.

Hellloooo Cindy - Scary Movie (2000)
Ok so I'm just plagiarising WorldFilmGeeks list with added comments and adjustments

Friday The 13th - Number 2, After the first two the series went loopy. I mean what happened? Over the top, nonsensical and not scary.
Halloween - The original - This still holds up (IMO), very good film. At lease the series didn't turn to comedy and camp as it seems some of the competition around that time did.
A Nightmare On Elm Street - I never liked the series, I don't find it scary at all. None of them.
Saw - The original is a nice film, don't mind the second.
Scream - The original, the first one is a great film, I know it has horror meta but it fits and is genuinely scary and chilling, think brutal opening murder (unless you have seen Scary movie the night before). The sequels, what happened are they horror or comedy? There was a song and dance in the library or cafeteria in scream 2..enough said. Horror/comedy..unless it's trying to be a Ghost Busters type thing I don't like it.
Alien - Aliens - the original is also a fine movie but I agree.
Predator - Arnie! Love this movie, classic nostalgia for me
Phantasm - Never seen
Evil Dead - Just like a nightmare of elm street this is another horror/comedy series that doesn't appeal to me.
Child's Play - Never seen except for parts of the original and its looks crap and fits the horror/comedy/camp realm.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The original still reigns as my all time favorite horror film- Yes I agree, Orginal really holds up well, is still scary and has a scarily realisitc tone to it given the way it was shot/directored and what it was based on and just the general intelligence of the film.
Hellraiser - Seen the original, didn't do much for me.
Final Destination - Number 2 has that amazingly horrific freeway scene and creative deaths. Not very memorable though.
Paranormal Activity - I thought the third one was the scariest, the first scared me plenty though. The only film that has topped the scares lately is The Conjuring.
Hostel - The original I agree although part two is well worth the watch. Very enjoyable.

Phantasm is a really good series and worth checking out, very unique series of films. They're fortunately a lot easier to find now from the Blu-ray set of all five released earlier this year.

I don't remember if I mentioned them before here, but the Warlock series was another I remembered. I never saw the third but recall liking the first two back in the day, been years since I last saw them. The titular villain is one of the more elegant Horror villains and it's a shame he was recasted for the third film.

Bringing this back with it now being October and the Halloween/Horror season in full effect.
Thanks. Nothing to add so far, but looking forward to a new Halloween (from Carpenter! ), a new Chucky (with Fiona Dourif ), and a new Jeepers Creepers (if we'll actually be allowed to see it ).

I'm a classic slasher fan, and I totally agree with your picks on the first three (the "Big Three" slasher franchises). The original Halloween is my all-time favorite movie, and I consider it, II, and H2O a self-contained "trilogy" (for which I've taken some heat elsewhere in this forum). I notice your NoES choices are all the ones with Heather Langenkamp, but those three are the best, coincidentally or not. And I happen to agree with your F13 choices, in part for Tom Savini's and Alice Cooper's respective involvement.

I'm a slasher fan as well! I've been so since an alarming young age lol!!
Yeah I think my favorite slasher series is definitely Halloween, it's defintely the most cosistent one. And my favorite slasher of all time is either Halloween or Scream. I almost put Return of Michael Myers instead of H2O but I like H20 a little better. I think 5 is mediocre but has a great chase scene at the end. Curse is just bad. Resurrection is a horrible. And I like the first Zombie remake, Definitely not the second. For NoES, I feel like those three are the only great ones, although I also like Dream Master.

After what I said above, I do have to admit to having a soft spot for Halloween 4 and 5, only because I used to live in the neighborhood where they'd been filmed. The Part 4 house was just around the block from me (drastically repainted by then), and when I walked to the grocery store I'd make a point of walking by the Part 5 house. (Incidentally, they obviously shot that movie in the summertime, because by October the hedge Michael hid behind was completely bare. The magic of special effects!)

Count me as a big slasher fan. Have a major affinity for slashers as they got me not only into Horror but movies in general from a young age. My movie-loving existance is owed majorly to slashers.

I picked up Cult Of Chucky the other day and will be marathoning the series soon. I'm a big Chucky fan and actually like and enjoy all the films to varying degrees, even Seed Of Chucky. I don't plan on seeing Jeepers Creepers 3, mainly as I don't want to support the director (read up on him if you're wondering why).

I hear you about Victor Salva, but I still enjoy the JC movies. (I don't know, maybe because he pled guilty and did his time? I don't know.) The most disturbing aspect for me is my own inconsistency, because I can't watch anything with Bill Cosby now. (I don't know, maybe because I was a fan of his since childhood, so it feels like more of a betrayal? Maybe because he and his wife are still in a la-la land of denial? I don't know.)

But yeah, slashers! 😀

I didn't realize the new Chucky was even out yet. Been looking forward to it, since the previous one was so good. Thanks for the heads-up!

I remember in the Jeepers Creepers movies how the director's, ahem, tendencies were obviously put into the movie with some of the Creeper's actions, which makes them doubly unsettling to watch.

Well, OK, I have to admit the design of the Creeper's face does give a new meaning to

blowing one's nose.

And then there's the Creeper's obvious preference for male victims, and how he toys with them whereas the women he kills as if they're an annoyance or interference.

HA! You're right! You can see the same in Nightmare on Elm Street 2, which has been called "the gayest horror movie of all time", as in this awesome review from Camp Blood, a gay horror site. http://campblood.org/Reviews/Review%...%20Revenge.htm
