Great Write-up Daniel! I'm still not sure what to think of that movie, but I already want to watch it again. One thing I don't think I mentioned when I first wrote something on it, was that I restarted it an hour into it. I enjoyed that first hour more the second time around.

On my second viewing I skipped the first hour actually, watched it all on the third viewing and I thought the first hour flew by in comparison to my first viewing. Maybe because more the first time I was trying so hard to listen to the conversations, I was so suspicious and focusing so hard on these first four characters. I was able to be more relaxed and observe other details on my last viewing.

It's something I almost never do, but for whatever reason I did with this movie. I can only think that at the time I wasn't fully appreciating what I was seeing.

The Hateful Eight (Quentin Tarantino, 2015)

I don't get the complaints about Tarantino being racist, sexist, whatever... to me his characters maybe, but the underlying message is one of progress and empowerment, but I don't want to get too involved in politics.
True words. I'm amazed at some of the critical attacks towards this film regarding those themes (even by critics like Matt Zoller Seitz, whose opinion I usually respect a lot). They just seem so odd and misguided to me. I think Tarantino actually makes great use of the themes Daniel is naming there.
If anyone disagrees with me, I'd definitely be wanting to have a large discussion about that particular thematical aspect of Tarantino's more recent work, because I think it's one of the most ridiculous criticisms against him out there. If anything, he actually deserves praise for it instead of hate.

Anyway, as Daniel already mentioned, I also really loved the film. It might be one of Tarantino's best to date for me (which says a lot). It's brilliantly written, it's full of memorable sequences, the underlying themes are meaningfully used and above all, it's an extremely entertaining cinematic ride! Tarantino delivered yet again and his filmography keeps getting more impressive. Can't wait to see where his genius takes us next!

The Stepford Wives - 5/10

Great story. I think they used the idea, and built a lot of mediocrity around it. Even during the non-satirical parts, the acting wasn't very good. I could see why this was remade. Would have liked to see more substance, less empty scenes with not-so-great writing.

You mean me? Kei's cousin?

I know you guys were probably expecting a rating for Joy, but I haven't gotten around to that one yet. Oh, well, Mom said we were gonna go see it and I'm gonna hold her to that. For the time being, expect a rating for Zero Dark Thirty some time in the afternoon.

Martyrs (2008)

I'm not sure if I was laughing to buffer myself from being exploitated emotionally, but I was definitely laughing. Whether profound or pretentious, I couldn't take it seriously enough to care. I will say, however, that it peaked too early. You have to save your crowd pleasers for the right moments. Xavier Dolan getting mowed down with a shotgun is a terrible thing to waste.

It's very well made. Fans of Michael Haneke would enjoy it.
